I'll start off with the good. Though we didn't use the pool, it appeared to be clean and a good size. The property is located in the heart of it all one block from the beach/boardwalk. The climate control AC was good, though it was weird there was a wall unit in the bedroom that didn't work or was discontinued- maybe it was back up, I don't know. We arrived at 2:30 on Sunday, check in was at 4. We filled out all our information and told were to come back at 4, the room wasn't yet ready. No problem, we went to boardwalk, did some exploring and came back at 430 were given our room keys and lugged our stuff up two flights of stairs- no elevator. We got to our room, and I immediately saw housekeeping in back room and so now its like 440 and our room isn't clean. I go down to office to tell them and as I'm waiting another guest, a middle-aged woman says to the man behind the desk, you didn't give me my change. an apology is given, I thought I did, he puts his head down to get change, and the woman looks at me, shakes her head and rolls her eyes. So, at this point, my room isn't ready, someone else hasn't been given change. I get a bunch of justifiable (from their perspective) story's telling me how there were 80 check outs today. I guess that's a lot for them, all I know is my room isn't ready, and we just lugged all our stuff up two flights of stairs and are now sitting outside in the heat, sweating. I asked what they planned to do for our inconvenience and was repeatedly told we are doing the best we can. 5 minutes earlier the guy who checked us in is throwing Deb (who was there at 230) under the bus saying I was told everything was ready. |It's a communication issue. No one let housekeeping know we were already there, and clearly Deb assumed everything was done or would be done by 4, but no one checked. If at that point I got a hey we are really sorry, it isn't ready yet, no problem, we will go back to the boardwalk and go eat or something, text us when its ready.....things happen...but once I'm told the room is ready, my expectation is that it is and now I'm hot and sweaty and need to go to the bathroom and cant.||The next day we left the room around 11 or so and were on the beach until about 4 or so. We came back to a room that hadn't been touched. I went to office looking for towels, told them room hadn't been touched. They asked if I had do not disturb on door, I told them no, and I definitely did not, but no big deal, I just needed towels. that night we decided to check out a day early and just go home. at 10:59 i received a voicemail saying they came to turn over room but there was a privacy sign on door again- in other words, the claim was the day before we left a privacy sign out- we didn't. Not after 11 am at least. Its possible they checked before 11 am but didn't check again. When I went to check out a day early all I did was return room keys. Deb decided to once again justify everything starting with us showing up at 230 on Sunday. I told her I have no idea why she keeps bringing that up, I had no disappointment at not getting in at 230, my issues are with lugging gear up two flights of stairs at 430 after being told we are ready and then having to sit outside in the heat sweating well after contracted check in without as much as being offered a bottle of water. She then told me well we have people coming here for 40 years- in other words, take no responsibility, and try to turn it on me as being unreasonable. I mentioned the bottle of water thing and the response was we dont have water- I said there are 3 vending machines right there. I run a sales dept, do you know how many times I have bought a bottle of water or bag of chips from a vending machine for my customers? The funny part is, I just wanted to hand my keys in and go home. I wouldn't have even bothered writing this review if Deb didn't try to once again justify the position of the Motel. I didn't ask for anything, didn't demand anything, didn't mention leaving room. I just wanted to check out. The entire time the only thing I was offered was to check out an hour later on Wednesday. I explained, you ever have to really go to the bathroom and the minute you get to your destination your body is like run to the bathroom...the same exists when you are given those room keys and expect to be able to use the shower or bathroom, but instead are stranded on the 3rd deck of a hotel with luggage for two people in the sun with no water, sweaty from lugging up gear two flights of stairs. They just refused to view it from the guest's point of view and were more interested in paying guests being sympathetic to how busy they were than accepting responsibility and making it right. Last, I waited 72 hours to write this because I wanted to offer them time to reach out again to offer something based on the poor experience. Whether it was crediting us for the hour or offering us 10% off if we come back, just anything that said hey we screwed up, we know it, it isn't usually like this. |In a nutshell, if you have little kids and are looking for a pool and a block to the beach, this place gives you that, the same as about 25 other hotels I could see from outside my door. If you are someone who expects the hospitality industry to at a minimum meet basic expectations like not minimizing your vacation time, you probably want to pick another place where the recent reviews say consider this place. This place's reviews over the last 3 years don't seem to be as good as the ones...
Read moreA non-smoking facility.||Stayed 2 nights in Room 216 (being the end-of-season, we were able to check-in before the 4 pm official time -- check-out is by 10 am), one of the two-room mini-suites. 216 is at the end, which meant no foot-traffic past our (curtained) full-height window. Also, we faced Spicer Avenue, which is a quieter side-street.||Roughly 100 yards to the ramps up to the middle-zone of the boardwalk.||We met Debbie at the desk, who was very friendly and welcoming -- and helped us to extend to two nights (at my request, as I liked the look of the place).||Very solid wall and ceiling (concrete) -- only a little noise got into the front room (the bedroom was silent for us). ||The tiled front room was medium-large with a large couch, soft chair, round wooden dining table with four sturdy chairs, and a very-wide and sturdy chest of drawers on which the similarly-large flat-screen was placed. Just enough space on the chest for a laptop to either left or right of the flatscreen (and a special power outleft also with usb ports was there). Bring an extension cord to use a laptop on the dining table.||SUGESTION: Bring a small board game (like the great-for-kids Settlers Of Catan game, but not the very-large-map Ticket To Ride games). ||Our small hallway to the bedroom door (slatted), had the bathroom to the right and the kitchenette to the left. Medium-size real refridgerator/freezer with adjustable shelves. Stove-top, microwave, coffee-maker, and a toaster stored in the cabinets where a full set of plates, mugs, glasses, and silverware is placed. Bring paper towels and dish soap -- the dish-rack is stored under the stove-surface, with the pots. Bring shampoo, and drinks of your choice (we used a 2-liter plastic jug with lemonade mix).||CAUTION: The hot water spigots heat up FAST.||The carpeted bedroom (not large) has two full beds (three soft pillows each), a night-stand with lamp, chest of drawers, a clothes rack (there's one in the hallway too), and a private door into the bathroom. Small window above the night-stand, next to a huge A/C unit (there's A/C in the main room too). Bring extra kleenex (there's one in the bathroom). The flat-screen in the bedroom is mounted up high in a corner -- send the kids to bed early, there's a Disney channel.||There are two front doors -- the outer is wood and slatted, to let a breeze in. The inner is a strong metal door with the key-card reader. Both lock.||On the walkway in front, there's good room for the two sturdy plastic chairs and small table. The first floor faces the (4.5-feet deep) pool (with a barred-off kiddie-pool section) -- there's a handicap ramp at the far end. Note that the second floor has a concrete walkway above it, so we stayed dry while watching it rain one night.||CAUTION: The 2nd floor is accessed by a highly-visible and well-lit metal and concrete stairway, with very sturdy iron hand-rails. I'm 67 and I did them, with suitcases, etc., and was just extra-careful the day it rained. ||The Pink Cadillac Diner is on the same block as the hotel -- about a 2-minute walk. We really like chinese at Dragon Garden (pricey, but not high for a resort town), walk west on Spicer one block to Pacific Avenue, turn right, and go two short blocks -- it's on the left.||NOTE: There's an Acme grocery in Wildwod.||IMPRESSION: A well-deserved 4.75 score. We felt Very...
Read moreWe stayed at the three bedroom apartment, across the street from the motel.||Starting with the positives:|- Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Good communication from the beginning, and they gave us a deal on the price from the website.|- Location was absolutely the best. One block from the middle of the boardwalk!|- Pool area was very good and they had a kiddie pool area which was so great for our 2 yr old!|- The apartment has two parking spots and it's on the first floor. Very convenient and easy to move around with a baby.|- The fully equipped kitchen and main bathroom were renovated, and each bedroom had a flat screen TV.|- 3 bedrooms! Very hard to find elsewhere in Wildwood, especially so close to the beach.||Negative:|- General cleanliness left much to be desired. The place is in need of a very thorough deep cleaning. Windows were dirty, floors were black with dirt, furniture had clear stains from overuse and had clearly never been washed. The light fixture over the dining table had an inch of dust on it! The downstairs bathroom shower stall hadn't been cleaned at all. We had to clean everything ourselves on the first day, and we covered the couches with sheets bc we didn't feel comfortable sitting on them|- All the appliances were old and rusted. We were excited for the laundry machines and all, but seeing the state of them made us not want to use them. The fridge was rusted too and on the last night it leaked water all over the floor!|- No decor or any sort of theme or any "touches" to make the place feel cared for or well maintained. The blinds of the front door were broken. In one bedroom, the walls were dirty and paint was chipped and generally gave the feeling of disrepair and neglect. Carpets in general were not clean. The furniture was all very old and worn.|- The upstairs neighbors' footsteps are incredibly loud, but thankfully they were only there for our last night. If they had been there the whole time, I would not have been happy. We are traveling with a toddler who takes a nap and those noises disturbed him that last day.||Overall, I would give 2.5 but I'm making it 3 stars bc of the staff and all the positives I've listed.|The three bedrooms so close to the beach is so great. I sincerely would come back if the place was renovated more and cleaned and decorated with some more care. I would suggest that the hotel management invest some dollars in this apartment because this location has very real potential and would be a very popular choice if it were just clean and well...
