I really wanted to like this place. But alas ā¦ā¦ā¦.
(Original review exceeded character limit so hereās the short version)
Checked in on Thursday no problem.
Room #1: We got to our room and it was two beds instead of one king (booked thru EZTravel - see that review)
Upgraded for $25 per night to a single king bed room (front desk assumed we needed two beds but didnāt ask for sure)
Room #2: Decent. Not anything to write home about. Bed was comfortable, pillows were comfortable, view was pretty cool of the Sphere and Strip. The bathroom design was eh tho. Iām a whole 4ā11ā and if the bathroom door was open, it was hitting my knees if I was on my throne. The toilet paper reach felt like a yoga backbend! Not even gonna lie, my side is sore from the turn and reach!
Sunday at 3:30am: Door got stuck and wouldnāt open thanks to the arm sticking in a knotch on the top of the door. Got help from front desk.
30 mins later: back down to follow up. There was an āincidentā and they didnāt have anyone to help us, but a supervisor was on their way. I asked if we could have our upgrade fee reimbursed and was advised to speak with a manager in the morning.
25m later: 2 security personnel; explained our situation and they understood, they could see what was going on; called for someone to fix it; advised no one was available, but they could have it done first thing in the morning.
Sunday at 8:00am: I hear a knock. Thinking it was our door people, I look thru the peephole only to see security getting a statement from the room next to us. Apparently, they were involved in the āincidentā from earlier that morning that had security all tied up. Backtrack to the door knocking: THATS HOW THIN THE WALLS AND DOOR ARE! I seriously thought someone was at OUR door! I went back to bed.
12:00pm: nothing
1:00pm: Husband calls down to follow up. The very less-than-enthused-unhappy-with-her-job guest services receptionist advised she would have maintenance come up.
2:00pm: weāre ready to head out. We went downstairs and spoke with a front-desk manager. He was very nice and helpful. He confirmed our work-order ticket but advised it was a carpenter job and ā¦.. you guessed it ā¦. No carpenters available on Sunday. He gave us the choice of staying in the room and risking the door sticking again or upgrading the room to a studio, no charge. We opted to change rooms and he comped us $100 in food and beverage credit. He called for a luggage cart and we headed back up, praying the door would open. Bellman and luggage cart met us. He asked if we needed more time ⦠yes, we do but told him he didnāt have to wait for us. He said ok and started walking away with the cart! I said, āWait! We need the cart still!ā And he advised, āWe donāt leave the carts; Iāll wait.ā Fine. At this point I was so irritated from lack of food, coffee (because no coffee in the standard rooms), and drama. We got all our stuff loaded and headed to the new room.
Room #3: Studio - Nice! Coffee pot, toaster, microwave, mini fridge, mini dishwasher ā¦. Not bad. I wish they would have offered this last night, considering we check out tomorrow and I havenāt had a real cup of coffee! Lost our view of the Sphere, but whatever. I moved the chair away from the window to get a better look and discovered a lost bottle of lotion, NOT belonging to me. SIGH. I left it. I packed what we didnāt need, put away the things we did need, and we headed to our dinner reservation.
FYI: the 90-minute presentation turned into a 4-hour sales pitch that continued even after we said āNo thanksā FIVE times. So, DONT FALL FOR IT! Even if you paid $100 for a promotion to stay here, I highly advise against it. To actually stay here, even though I already paid, it was another $500. Small pool; decent amt of chairs and cabanas
UPDATE: Sunday afternoon: you have to hold the handle down until toilet is fully flushed
Monday morning: toilet is running but doesnāt flush at all 8:40am: called guest services 9:55am: went downstairs to use bathroom 10:30am: maintenance...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf I could rate this expierence NEGATIVE 100 stars, I would. We will never be coming back to stay at this "resort" ever again. We were staying here because of National APA pool tournaments that have been hosted at this hotel for 15+ years. You would think that Westgate would have been prepared and management would have taken necessary steps to accommodate the needs of the event but that was just simply not the case and we suffered financially and physically because of it.
Air Conditioning Issues: For 5 out of the 7 nights during our stay, the air conditioning in our room was not functioning correctly. Given that the resort was fully aware of the high demand due to the APA event in August, this was particularly egregious. The lack of cooling created unbearable conditions and posed serious health risks, as evidenced by attendees requiring medical attention due to heat-related issues.
Health and Safety Concerns: The extreme heat in the building resulted in several guests needing to be taken to the emergency room. I personally had to shower fully clothed just to avoid passing out from the heat while participating in the tournament.
Inadequate Room Service: The resort discontinued room service at 2 pm specifically due to the event, rather than extending hours to accommodate the high volume of guests. This lack of service severely impacted our ability to manage meals and rest.
Food Service Failures: On the first night, the sports center food area, advertised to be open until 4 am, closed early at 11 pm because they ran out of food. Guests waiting in a long line were not informed of this issue, causing significant inconvenience. Additionally, there was only one register serving three separate restaurants, which led to long wait times.
Lost Package: I ordered a bedside fan to cope with the heat, but the package was lost by the hotel. This exacerbated our discomfort during the stay.
Poor Customer Service: When calling to make a reservation at Benihana, I was abruptly told that they were closed on Tuesdays. When I asked a follow-up question, the staff member responded dismissively with āwhateverā and hung up.
Lack of Amenities: There were no microwaves available on our floor, forcing us to use a plug-in skillet purchased from Walmart to prepare basic meals like ramen in our roomās bathroom. The only alternative was the overpriced 24-hour gift shop.
Inconvenient Room Location: Our room was situated at the far end of the hotel, far from the event rooms. This necessitated long walks through the heat, and several elevators were out of order, adding to the difficulty of navigating the hotel.
Pool Closure: After long days at the tournament, we were unable to use the pool or hot tub as the pool area was locked at 7 pm. This early closure was attributed to the lack of a lifeguard, despite the event having sold out the hotel for over two weeks.
Overbooking and Poor Accommodation: The hotel overbooked rooms for the APA tournaments, resulting in several guests being placed in rooms with only one bed, causing them to sleep on floors or share beds uncomfortably. Some guests were even turned away upon arrival, despite having reservations made well in advance.
Poor Casino Service: I spent two hours at the casino before being approached by a server for a drink. The casino was busy, yet there was insufficient staffing to manage the guest flow effectively.
General Disorganization: Overall, the management of the resort seemed inadequately prepared to handle the scale and specific needs of a large-scale event like ours. This resulted in numerous service failures and a severely diminished experience for all guests involved.
I do NOT recommend you stay here if you are attending...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJust got home from a 7 night stay at the Westgate. We stayed here because it was the host hotel for a competition we were attending while in Las Vegas. We traveled with a group of 22 athletes. The hotel isolated our club across the entire facility all on different floors in different towers. Upon entry, our room had NO lights. I had to call down regarding the lighting to which maintenance came up and said they only have lamps in our room. Strange. Then my daughter points to something on the floor which is a half eaten sausage from a previous guest. GROSS. Our room was also so hot. So I called again for maintenance. The worker said our thermostat was broken so he could only switch it from hot to cold. We chose cold and he put it at 14 Celsius/57 Fahrenheit. It was that or 24 Celsius/75 Fahrenheit.. no in-between. And the pipes in our walls creeked all day and night with a loud high pitched noise. Not to mention we had a connecting room to loud party guests next door who stayed up all night. I had to crank the fan (in an already freezing room) and shove towels under the door to try to limit the noise but the walls were thin and there was a 2 inch gap under our connecting door. Why have connecting doors if you cannot accomodate connecting room requests?
We only received house-keeping twice during our stay and they didn't empty the garbages, left dirty pillowcases on the floor, etc. The room was covered in dust. Also rooms have no coffee maker or microwave, and they will charge for hot drinking water at $1.50/cup.
The dining options were limited. The buffet made multiple people in our group sick with food poisoning. Do not eat there!! The Benihana Japanese was delicious but the wait times are atrocious. The waitress would stand around visiting with her colleagues while it took us 45 minutes to even place a drink order. Another hour for our soup/salad to arrive and then another hour for food... The coffee shop is way overpriced and the sandwiches were so soggy I couldnt eat them. We didn't try the steakhouse or the Mexican. The Italian was great with good service and really the only place I would recommend. The sport bar/pizza was average at best but horrible and slow service.
The casino was gross. Smoking and ashtrays at all the machines. As a non smoker I was coughing so much trying to enjoy myself. It would have been nice to limit part of the casino to non smoking. Most of the tables were empty, and the high limit room I didn't see a single person in there the whole week.
And the time share harassment was insane. In 7 days I was approached by the same women 38 times about a "free welcome gift". THIRTY EIGHT times by one lady. My answer was always the same yet she followed me around every time I had to walk by the main lobby area.
The hotel is also so far away from anything. The monorail to the strip is ok for $6 each way, but if you want to get some basic groceries or go anywhere else you are looking at $30/$40/$50 cab or Uber each way.
The pool is bad too. So dirty. I stepped on garbage twice in the pool. Looked like maybe toilet paper on the bottom... yuck. Dirty bandaids floating. Then I went to put up my sun umbrella and the lifeguard said it was too windy when there was NO wind. They also wouldn't let our friends bring their baby's float toy in the pool even though mom and dad were there and baby had on her life jacket.
And what is the $50/day resort fee for? What did we receieve with that money grab? Wifi that cut in and out the whole trip, water shut off 3 times during our stay, no hot water one day, 2 calls to maintenance, time share harassment, 6 am fire alarm on a Saturday morning waking up all the guests..
Just no! Book...
