This is a tough one to write. Just attended The Smashing Pumpkins/Pvris show last week. Here are my thoughts.
Beautiful venue Staff was extremely kind and attentive Easy to find and navigate First Class amenities and reasonable prices on concessions/drinks
However, the sound situation mentioned in other reviews IS a significant issue. I have seen The Smashing Pumpkins in many venues in all shapes and sizes. I know what they should sound like. I also know the raw power of their sound that so many venues have captured to date. This show left me frustrated with the whole audio experience. Here is why:
There is no full audio presence for the GA area of the venue. The PA is at least 80-100 feet above the GA portion. All fully mixed audio is literally being amplified directly over the heads of the pit. Many bands these days also play without stage volume which requires a more focused PA. We could hear vocals and drums on. We could barely hear the low end of the guitars and bass. There was virtually no middle and high frequency presence directed at GA close to the stage. But you know it’s messy when a voice like Billy Corgan’s gets lost in the mix and sounds better as a reverberation off of walls and back of the venue that from its direct source.
There is definitely room for improvement (starting with something as simple as better PA placement for the fans up front). So 2 stars for the actual experience. Would give 5 stars for potential.
PS. Went to a show at an out door venue a couple days later (yesterday) and they had two speaker arrays on each side of the stage. One up high for the folks in the back and one down low pointed slightly inward for the folks up front. Both bands sounded crystal clear at high volume. Maybe something to consider given the height of the venue and...
Read moreI have been to hundreds of concerts and this was has been by far the absolute worst venue i have ever been to. It looks nice upon entering, and the stage is up high to make seeing a bit easier. The floor even seems a bit softer than usual. There is one major problem though. The sound.
This venue has the absolute worst sound system I have ever heard. The speakers are all pointed up high so the sound never really hits the floor. During the Summer Gods tour with Third Eye Blind, Yellowcard, and Arizona there were significant sound issues. Most notably the problems occurred during Yellowcard as the lead singer could barely be heard for the majority of the set. They even made fun of the venue for the poor production qualities the venue had in place. The sound often was extremely distorted and you couldn’t tell a guitar from a violin. While it was a bit clearer during Third Eye Blind, the sound lacked energy, base, and it felt like we were straining our heads upward to hear the sound as it wasn’t reaching the floor. There was no base or life. It was hollow.
Before you think it was a one off show with sound problems, I have been here once before for a private event concert and that sounded the same so it was not a fluke. I absolutely love concerts, but do not recommend this venue. If artists are smart, they will boycott this place. I strongly encourage you to travel to another city to see any artist coming here as any other venue will surely have a better sound system. There are some nice parts about this venue, but concerts are all about sound and this venue has beyond...
Read moreFirst time to this venue (Wednesday night for Tears for Fears). Good show! Basic 80s style concert! I agree the floor seating sucks! Everyone was crammed into chairs that seemed to come from a spaghetti feed nearby. If someone had to get past you, there was little room to squeeze by! In reading the comments, those in the very front cannot see without standing, which ripple effects to the rest of the floor. As such, we had to stand....I am 6'4" and the rest of my group was slightly shorter. If you consider yourself even average height, the floor seats are not for you! For TFF, there were no Jumbotron screens so there was only one way to see the show, straight ahead with everyone standing! Last beef was the rudeness that abounded....people talking throughout the whole concert....cell phones being held above people's head to video....people videoing with 12" by 12" (or more) tablets....old people vomiting (I mean, come on.....the average age at this concert was about 65....if you can't handle your alcohol, don't drink!). I doubt I would return to this venue based on this experience! I expected a classier crowd, but welcome to the...
