A great value hotel on Oil street, which I came to call Shoe Street due to the huge number of shops with knock-off shoes for sale. I just want to make sure this isn't taken as a negative as I bought two pairs from shops within 20 metres from the hotel :) Having said that, the right foot, of my pair of shoes, started making an annoying sound after being worn just the second time. Anyway, back to the hotel...
The main takeaway from the Amorita is that you feel like you are going home; all of the staff are super friendly and make you feel welcome from the first time you walk through the glass front doors. From Mark and Kim, during the day, to Mr Lee at night, the team at Amorita are really terrific and definitely stood out across all of our travels on this holiday. Just be warned, Mr Lee is now the Uno champion of SE Asia, so don't let him talk you into any games for money, it won't end well! :D If you don't believe me, ask him if you can watch the video of his exploits with us!
Now onto the breakfast. While the buffet is limited, you get to make a selection from a menu. AWESOME! My daughter loved the pancakes and French Toast. Sorry, but no French Fries for her for brekky! While I tried to work my way through anything and everything. At the price point of the Amorita, breakfast was a really great way to start the day before heading out into the sights and sounds of Ha Noi. I would also like to add that the kitchen staff, and waitress, are really friendly and fun; just ask them about my... efforts to speak the Vietnamese term or 'it was delicious'. Nope, it wasn't pretty! haha
There are some downsides with staying at the Amorita. In no particular order, these would be...
The beds. While they weren't terrible, they were a bit harder than most Aussies would be used to and/ or like to sleep on. This was certainly the case for us and is something that the owner(s) could improve upon easily.
The next thing would have to be the noise levels allowed through having no 'soft' surfaces in the halls, rooms or the stairwell. This made it so we could hear people walking around even if they were a couple floors above or below the one we were staying on. When you add to this the very loud door, on closing, we got to experience people entering and exiting their rooms way more than would have been good. As a 'not great' sleeper, I found this lead to my sleep being constantly interrupted (yes, by other guests who really didn't give a toss about the noise they were making) largely due to the setup of the hotel lending itself to bouncing noise both along, and from, floor to floor. If I had some decent earplugs, this would have been mitigated a fair bit, so also a case of 'my bad' to not make...

Negative:
This place is the only place whose bedsheets smelled like chlorine – I have never experienced something like this before. But let's start from the beginning...
When booking our room, I told the hotel staff that we might arrive late in the evening, which we did. Upon arrival, the receptionist said, “Wow, you're arriving quite late – let me check if your room is still available.” This is not something you want to hear when arriving at a hotel at around 9 pm after informing the hotel staff about it.
Our room cost VND 858,000. When I gave the receptionist VND 1 million, he said that he couldn't give us the right change as our “bills were too big”. Therefore, we had to wait for the next morning to get our change. Very unprofessional.
The window in the room was tiny and didn't allow for any daylight to come in.
The next morning, there was a lady (a hotel employee, I suppose) sitting in the breakfast area and watching some loud video on her phone. When I asked her if I could have some water for breakfast, she pointed at some water tanks which were on the ground and not ready to be used. When I asked her if she could set it up so I can get water, she rolled her eyes and yelled at someone until a man came by and set it up for me. I mean... What is the lady doing there if she doesn't provide any help to the guests?

Positive: Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. Central location.
Conclusion:
After checking out, we cancelled our 2nd stay at this hotel that we had initially planned, and went to “Five Star Westlake 1st-4th Floors Hotel & Serviced Apartment” instead, where everything...
Read moreI stayed in 8 different hotels in HCM, Danang and Hanoi during this trip. My experience with other 7 hotels was just amazing. But this one is absolutely terrible. Here’s the story: Before arriving, I kept in touch with their staff all the time and even kept updating them about my arrival time. When I arrived the hotel around 5:30pm, they already gave my room to other guest. Then they acted like it’s nothing and take me to the hotel next door. (HM Hotel) The hotel room is so much worse than the one I booked and the smell of bathroom is disgusting. Also, because it’s just above the reception, I can hear people talking in the small lobby downstairs and people walking up and down the stairs all day. No offense, but It’s more like a room for cleaner than guest. They shouldn’t charge anything for this room. When I complained this to their staff, they told me all their 6 hotels are fully booked so no other room I can be changed to. They only offered me free breakfast but I what can you expect the breakfast to be in such kind of hotel. So of course I didn’t try. Folks, please think again if you want to book this hotel. Because whatever you see on website might be a scam, they will move you to a much worse room and told you no other room is available. The worse thing is they acted like it’s nothing. It’s their...
