Very disappointing, we ordered a banh mi and coffee to eat in (first mistake), waited 20mins at the table before asking where my order was. Coffee not made, they served all the take away customers instantly, I went to ask if the banh mi sitting on the tray at the counter was mine and showed them my receipt and the guy just waved his hand in a 'no' motion to suggest it wasnt... even though the numbers matched. I stood there and waited as he made other banh mi's and soon after he grabs the cold banh mi, and asks his co-worker in vietnamese where this one goes and they point at my partner sitting at the table... he walks straight past me and I approach him and told him it was mine the whole time. By the time I bit in, the roll was cold, it tasted horrible.. was just peppery cheap mince... no idea why anyone would go here. By this point my partner was still waiting for his coffee. We were starving but couldnt finish it and left it at the table after a few bites. Very poor experience. Staff never apologised, just smiled and said yes okay.. would.not.recommend. So many other smaller shops that have amazing customer service and quality food...that is worth waiting for...if needed. This place looks well put together but everything else is just poor...
Read moreNo particular reason why I chose this over all the others except that it opens early (6.30am) and it also serves coffee.
This to me was better than the one I had when I arrived on the first day solely because of the quantity of fillings. The taste I would say is pretty much similar and the bread is also toasted perfectly - crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
I had the pork one this time and it came with meatballs (more of minced pork) charsiu and pate. Of course the usual vegetables and sauces. Not sure what they put in the sauce but it tasted good, slightly sweetish and salty - unlike some which are doused with creamy mayo. I don't think I could really taste the pate (which seems to be a staple ingredient even with sidewalk stalls) but it's alright.
After trying two different ones, I would say that BMs in Vietnam really hit different from those back home and I would not really be able to justify paying premium prices at those restaurants now that I have tried BMs here.......
Read moreI feel very compelled to write this review for everyone who goes somewhere for banh mi with ridiculously high ratings and is sadly disappointed by a cold roll with indiscernible and spurious meat slices.
This is the best banh mi we had in Vietnam and we tried a lot (including Banh Mi 25, which was a close second best). The roll is crispy and warm, the herbs are fresh and appropriately appointed across the roll, the meat is delicious and there is the option of not having any curious meat sausage filling. Apparently the pate is good too (this is hearsay as I didn’t have any pate myself).
I appreciate that some of the elements I’ve described with some derision are more traditional, but my simple western palate has chosen this to be the winning Banh Mi joint in the...
