Editing my 1* review. 16/9/25
After i posted a negative review i swiftly confronted by reception (the next morning) , i originally booked a room with no window, for 3 nights and it was payment upon arriving. Plans changed, and i let reception know, i was only staying for one night checking out at 7pm the next day to go somewhere else. At reception, i was told it is policy it’s non- refundable, fine. I paid, although i thought its really easy just to remove and refund me the night, but i paid. Then got given recommendations etc. i was also served a stale welcome drink of juice, im assuming from their breakfast bar, in a mug for drinking coffee, not a cup with ice, i don’t really expect that from a 4* hotel… the lift looks industrial has no form of 4* feel, it’s just a plain floor with no mirror.. another shocking thing for a marketed 4*.
The room. as the place is marketed as a 4, having gone to several 4-5 and it being the reason i booked it on top of the glowing reviews they have, unfortunately the room i was allocated was barely a 2*, the room was dark, and very unclean, toilet as small as a matchbox. underneath the sink was black mould, and there was grime at the bottom, nonetheless, as it was only one night and i had 5 bags and a list of things to do, i accepted it. Having travelled late i wanted to sleep, however was met with loud banging of construction and the dingy smelling corridor, i was too tired to even start complaining.
The next day I hung up a DND sign as if it couldn’t get worse, I had room service stand outside my door for 30-40 minutes early in the morning folding towels and singing. Mind you apparently they were aware of my review and wanted to knock on the door after seeing the DND sign they saw they couldn’t, buts it’s okay for room service to sing loudly outside the DND sign as i slept????
I left my first bad review, during the night i couldn’t sleep as you could hear everything, after i woke up late at 2pm, had a car booked as i had a pick up for 7, reception asked to speak to me and said after seeing my review they wanted to upgrade me, although i told them im leaving, what and how will that affect me? They then gave me a refund in cash for the one night, which although i was pleasantly surprised i was shocked, one bad review got me the 4* service i deserved? I was even messaged on whatsapp by another member of reception, in the morning and twice more after i left
Now i understand i’ve been asked to delete this review (i will insert the message) however, as someone who goes strongly by reviews when booking and this was the worst hotel i stayed in vietnam tbh, (i booked l’signature the next time i arrived it was amazing!) I believe it is important to be honest and transparent so people don’t have the traumatic experience I did. Maybe i’m a difficult person to impress, but honestly, this hotel made me very upset and the fact that a bad review, was what it took for them just to get their act together is shocking. i was placed in room 406, i have seen bad reviews for 402 also. so maybe it’s just that floor, but considering i went to a 4* upon arrival and booked a room for around the same price, i got 5* service and a spotless room on arrival, im not sure what’s generating these review or if they’re even real on google. But please beware or maybe book a better room than I did.
Ps, i’m only editing this now, as I have recovered from the overbearing messages i received after I had left the establishment. Moreover, when i was flying to go back home,
i was still asked to delete this review. However, i believe a review is my experience, and this was my experience, it was not good and I hope others have better ones and the hotel does better in future.
original: I think this place needs a real review not a backpackers 🤣 run away if your like me and came from a 5* and got hooked by reviews, like i did🤣🤣 this is not the place to go from 5* to 4* it’s maybe a 1*😭😭 my bf stopped me from...
Read moreI was initially a bit skeptical because so many hotels push for 5-star reviews but don’t live up to the hype. Thankfully, Maya Boutique is not one of those places — it absolutely exceeded my expectations from the moment we arrived.
As soon as we got there, we were warmly welcomed with drinks. While they prepared our check-in, we were comfortably seated, and one of the receptionists even sat down with us to go over a map — personally pointing out and writing down all the top tourist spots. That level of personal attention really stood out.
Our room was spotless, the sheets smelled fresh, and even though the building is older, it's very well maintained. The bathroom was also extremely clean — something that’s really important to us. You can tell they take cleanliness seriously.
The location is perfect — right in the Old Quarter, but just far enough from the noisy chaos, so you can actually relax and get a good night’s sleep.
Breakfast every morning was great! A variety of meats, vegetables, salad, cereal — everything you need, always fresh.
All the staff were kind, helpful, and friendly, but I have to give special mention to Frodo. He truly went above and beyond to make our stay smooth and enjoyable. Out of all the places I've traveled, Frodo is by far the best receptionist I’ve ever encountered. He’s genuinely a gem and a huge asset to this hotel.
Overall, this place is a steal for the price. I highly recommend Maya Boutique — it’s the perfect mix of comfort, hospitality, and value. You’ll feel taken care of from...
Read moreArranged an airport pick up with this hotel but when we arrived we found out there was a miscommunication and they didn’t order us a driver after all. Which was fine mistakes happen.
However when we arrived at the hotel there was a woman who didn’t speak English sitting at the desk. She phoned the owner who told me to wait for 15min until she arrived back at the hotel. After the owner finally arrived we had to wait another 30min until our room was ready (even though we arrived at check in time). The owners English is very limited as well.
For the price this was an ok stay but I probably wouldn’t book again. Photos of the hotel are accurate except that everything is slightly more dirty/dusty and seems much more worn down than in the photos. Overall seemed pretty clean but not amazing.
This is a very small hotel and that would be ok if the few staff they have were very attentive to their guests but we didn’t really feel welcome upon arrival. Good location, central and close to the night market so that was good.
Definitely no more than 3 stars. If you can get an amazing deal you...
