I stayed at Bui Bien Street Hostel for my last 4 nights in Vietnam before flying out.
I had booked the 4-person mixed dorm since that is the smallest, most quiet option they had.
Upon arrival I was greeted kindly, checked in without any issues and showed to my room.
When settling into the room I noticed that my blanket/sheet had old bodily fluids/blood on there and went down to reception to ask that they changed that immediately. Within the hour this was changed, yet this is not how you want to start your stay.
Throughout my stay I noticed some other things that could be improved at this hostel for a more pleasant stay: -There is no hand soap available in the bathrooms? -Bathrooms reeks of sewerage, this should really be addressed since due to this you can't keep the ensuite bathroom door open; -Airconditioning works, yet sometimes struggles to keep up; -The blood/bodily fluid stains in the blanket when I checked in; -No female dorm option available at this hostel; -Upon my second night they cancelled my stay, while I was staying there? Instead of the hostel coming up with an alternative to keep my booking, they let me wait and come to them with an idea. I do truly think that more attention to detail needs to be maintained here; -Besides/under the mattress it really needs a proper vacuum and wipe down; -Not the most social hostel, yet it is possible to meet people here;
Every stay has some positive sides as well, here is what I found pleasant about my stay: -Kind afternoon /evening reception staff member; -Affordable water buyable at reception + water refill available downstairs; -Free beer (or water) everyday; -Free breakfast; -Luggage storage if needed; -Good location; -Close to the walking street but not as hectic of loud as there. You are still able to sleep at this hostel; -Every bed has a mirror, light, electrical sockets, hangers, hooks and shelving with an extra locker next to the bed; -Besides the bed having plenty of space and a built in tiny wardrobe you also get a curtain to secure your privacy; -Plenty of restaurants in the area so you'll never have to walk far; -Ensuite bathroom with plenty of shower pressure; -Taxi serviced available from and to airport for a very decent price; -Several tours available to book via the hostel;
At this hostel you get what you pay for, but you shouldn't expect much more from it.
I personally wouldn't stay here again, but for the budget traveler this would be an...
Read moreI loved my stay here at Bui Vien Street Hostel! The bed designs are super spacious and cozy. I saw a lot of reviews saying the beds were very comfy, I found my mattress to be too firm for my liking, but this is also all personal preference! The bathroom was a bit run down, but everything worked well and we were well stocked!
The staff were extremely helpful with suggestions on where to eat and what to do!
Note this is not a very social hostel. There’s 1 free beer every evening (very appreciated!) and they can help organize day tours but that’s it in regards to social activities. This was still good! Another hostel on the same road had a pub crawl that I went to and it was so much fun, and I got to benefit from having quieter nights in the hostel. You can sometimes hear/feel the bass from one of the clubs but it’s not loud enough to really affect sleeping unless you’re an extremely light sleeper.
Still overall I was very impressed with the hostel and would definitely...
Read moreWorst hostel I've stayed in Vietnam and I've been in the country for a month now. The rooms have no windows and the place is not particularly clean either. The dead roach in the picture was in that corner of the stairs for all three days I was there... They ask you to pay in advance for the entire stay, not sure if they'd refund you if you were to leave early. The customer service is crap. I asked the lady at reception if she could help me make a phone call with my bus company as I missed my bus because I had to go to the hospital. She refused because it was gonna cost her 1,000 dong (€0.04)... The bathroom also was not in great condition: the sink was coming off the wall and the shower temperature was luke warm at best. I agree with some other reviews that you can feel the vibration from the music, but when I was there, it only happened on one of three nights and it ended around midnight. The place also didn't feel particularly social if you weren't there...
