First and foremost I have to say that the owners were amazing. They were so kind, super welcoming, and the made us feel so comfortable and warm through the entire experience, from the second we walked into the building right up to the second we walked out. We did the Death Note room, my husband, 10 year old son, and myself, and it was so much fun! The little man picked it out as a present for his Dad's birthday, and we weren't sure if it would be okay for him (he heard about it at school) but he got really engaged with figuring things out, which was so great to see because these clues and puzzles are not easy at all. I could actually see how he changed his way of thinking, and looking at the things in the room during the course of the time we were there, and it never occured to me beforehand but after watching him interact and really develop and use new ways of viewing the world in that short period of time I think it will be an experience that taught him things that he will take with him in life. That was a very unexpected, but very welcomed side effect! You really, really have to think outside of the box, and use everything at your disposal. From what I understand from speaking to friends and family that have done lots of other escape rooms the majority are mostly very low-tech, which is fine, but without giving anything at all away I loved seeing this one incorporate so many different apparatuses with the human problem solving. We become so passive in our usage of technology with all of the social media scrolling that we all do and this experience forces you to be completely present and really pay attention to aspects of things that you normally would just overlook. I'm so sorry for the super long review, but I can not say enough good things about this place and I have already been telling everyone I talk to to go check it out. We have already started making plans to go back with a bigger group and try their second room that is currently open, and then go back again when their third room opens! I'm so glad this was my first escape room, and between the adventure itself and the owners I don't think I'll ever find another place in Niagara that can put us all in such a great mood, can bring my family together to work closely with each other, can keep my 10 year old actively engaged and excited for an hour straight and have him talking about it all night after, and can make us feel like we accomplished something despite the fact that we didn't escape the room. Seriously, if you are considering going just book it and go! You will have tons of fun, learn to see things just a little bit differently, feel a sense of accomplishment whether you make it out of the room or not, and you will even meet the owners, some of the nicest people I've come across in a long time. Just book it and go. You will thank...
Read moreThe employee's were friendly and the lobby was nice, but I personally didn't enjoy my experience here. I'm someone who's played a lot of escape rooms in the area. However, I'm aware these are just my (and my husbands) opinions and welcome other peoples experiences.
I played "Death Note" with my husband. I'm familiar with the anime, and enjoy it, so it was fun seeing some of the references. But the novelty wore off quickly.
I'm someone who enjoys exploring, discovering, and physical puzzles to work with in the room. That's not to say those elements didn't exist. But the room severely lacked that kind of excitement and was instead underwhelming and predictable with their "surprises". Most of their puzzles didn't feel like puzzles to me, but instead felt like studying? It's hard to describe without giving away elements. But in the end, didn't feel enjoyable. We were exhausted, frustrated, and actually requested to leave after receiving extra time.
The room itself needs to be cleaned. All glassy like surfaces were covered in finger prints, the drawers need to be vacuumed out, dusty under the furniture.. etc. It made me feel a little uneasy, questioning the last time it's been cleaned.
I feel the structure for communication between game master and player needs some fixing. I was asked if we wanted to have the game master help us if we look to be struggling, or did we want to ask for the hints ourselves. I chose the second. Inside the game, I found the game master interrupted us, unprompted, on MANY occasions to lead us through the puzzles step-by-step. I found this frustrating because I was close to solving a puzzle on my own and was instead quickly force fed the answer. There were a couple times we did ask for something over the walkie talkie, but nobody answered..
Overall, I didn't like it. The puzzles weren't for me and the little fun of solving puzzles were stolen. I give props to people who have a good time here and I know their future escape room experiences will...
Read moreOkay so we just went there as a group of 5. And first off we got a “discount “ of 15% off for posting on social media and then was ask for a 15% tip before we did the room…that was a bit much. But the rooms it self was terrible. The first room we were in we were stuck for 10 minutes till we had to ask. There was no clue on how to get out. We had to press the hand prints on the wall from thickest paint to lightest..but that wasn’t written anywhere. Next was the room of doors where again the clues were in such a complicated manner that it wasn’t enjoyable. They make it seem like it’s new way of escape room with it being all automated but I would much rather touch a lock then Stand around hoping the magnets will work. They don’t give you anything to write on so by the end it’s so hard to try and remember which door you entered at what time. Then the lady walked in because the walky talkie wasn’t working which we didn’t notice bc we didn’t need help at that time. Then at one point she just didn’t stop talking which ruins the fun. Then the theming made no sense. Are we in a murder mystery or trying to figure out how the king died back in the 1800 who knows. Then one of the clues bc it’s all magnets didn’t work very well so the lady had to come in and basically do it for us. The last clue before the final room made no sense at all. (Example) sally really likes pink she lives in the pink door. Tom live with sally. Tom’s door is what colour…pink right since we know sally lives in the pink door…wrong clearly it’s purple. We chose this place because it was cheaper but spend the money and go to the escape room that’s a couple doors down from this place. That place has amazing themes and is so interactive. Even got to carry around a prop. In summary this place isn’t worth the money and they don’t have a good feel on what escape rooms...
