Fell into a kimono trap… and loved every second!
I visited together with a friend who recently attended kimono wear lessons to browse… and instead of her, I left with a full kimono set, complete with sandals, obi, accessories and a big smile. Let’s just say, Fukuyama-san is dangerously good at what he does! With his thoughtful guidance and infectious enthusiasm, I ended up walking out with a beautifully coordinated outfit that felt totally “me.”
The kimono I purchased was dyed with safflower from Yamagata; light, soft, and absolutely stunning. The obi? A beautifully crafted piece from Kyoto’s Nishijin area, super light and easy to pair with different styles. And don’t get me started on the sandals. Apparently they’re so comfy they’re called “the running zori” by kimono lovers. I believe it.
Not only did I enjoy the shopping experience, but I genuinely had a blast chatting with Fukuyama-san. His discerning eye on colours, textures, and styling was enough to convince me I had to start wearing kimonos as often as I can. I will say it does help though to speak a bit of Japanese to make the experience even more fulfilling but nonetheless, Fukuyama-san can speak a bit of English and his enthusiasm is contagious.
Highly recommend this shop to anyone especially if you’re new to kimono and want someone kind, knowledgeable, and has impeccable taste to help you find your look.
I’ll definitely be back hopefully in full...

We had the opportunity to visit the Kimono Ichiba showroom this week in Kyoto and were very impressed with the Owner, Keijiro Tanaka, the showroom manager and textile purchaser, Mr Nose, and all those assisting in the showroom. Everyone was knowledgeable.
This company has been making kimonos for over 80 years and they are dedicated to helping customers make selections they will love. Mr. Tanaka has an impressive vision for the company. All six of their stores across Japan are consistent in their dedication to quality service and production of beautiful kimonos. The spectacular offerings for customized kimonos were just wonderful. We felt they were suitable for many occasions, as well as for daily wear. The varied colors and designs range from traditional motifs to simple and contemporary elements. The Obis are beautiful as well. The array of materials, including silks and synthetics were stunning; they are easy to maintain and wear. We highly recommend this company.
They also warmly welcome guests from overseas. If you are interested in high-quality, luxury kimonos, we highly recommend you visit.
