Having high expectations sets one up for disappointment, which is what happened at WaSpa. [Used their phone during the treatments]
I had the Zen treatment— bamboo massage and face lifting facial (150 minutes—¥41,800)
While the Japanese hospitality was lovely, with a cup of Matcha and a candy to start, the overall treatments were below average, impersonal, and in the end, disappointing, when the facilitator began “secretly” using her cellphone while working on me.
I was shocked when towards the end of the massage she began distractedly and weakly massaging my neck with just one hand as her other hand tapped away at her cellphone which rested next to my head.
It happened again when we transitioned to the facial, which concerned me for cross contamination, since she was touch her phone and my face.
At first I tried giving her the benefit of the doubt, but when it was repeated and happened for several minutes at a time, I was left saddened and angry, which is not how one expects to leave a spa you flew around the world to experience.
I wasn’t going to leave a review, as I know people can have an off day, but when I saw this happened to another guest 6 months ago, I felt it was only right to warn future guests.
Update: I was lucky enough to visit the Intercontinental Spa in Osaka later in the trip (which was incredible) and realized that the Waspa massage was actually pretty bad. (At first I thought it just might be cultural variations in style…but no).
At WASPA, the massage table face hole had a paper barrier, and while laying face down, it felt suffocating since the airflow was very restricted. Also, no bolster under the knees or feet, and the whole facial was...
Read moreFirst time visiting WASPA last week, v professional staff and clean place! I was served a hot tea and a couple traditional Japanese sweets after completing a sheet to write my preferences in massage pressures/any areas of focus
I booked the facial contouring massage for 90 minutes and it included a back massage to start— the face massage was relaxing and after completion I felt extremely hydrated! I took off one star because my preferences were noted to have extra pressure but it was all done w light pressure.. in the end I did fall asleep half way, but was hoping to leave having the tension in my jaw area gone which wasn’t the case. (Not sure if this type of massage is suppose to be such light pressure but my experience in the past at other spas were more to my liking in that...
Read moreI'm really, really happy with the treatment tonight. It's been a long time since I've had such a nice, professional spa. It's best to make a reservation in advance. I booked the two thirty cent package, which includes body and facial massages. I'll definitely come back if I ever come back to Japan. I'm really happy with it. I chose the body oil with cypress Camellia Oil and the facial with matcha. I'm really relaxed right now. I really recommend coming here. The whole interior is very relaxing. The atmosphere...
