AVOID….terrible repair, customer service and after care. I took my engagement ring into O’Hares in August 2023 to have the setting rebuilt as one of the claws was catching everything and I was worried about the safety of the diamond. I spent a £320 having this done with my three other rings replated. When I collected the ring almost a month later after being told the work would take approximately two weeks, the setting had been rebuilt in a different style to the it original so my engagement ring, wedding band & eternity ring didn’t sit together. All three of my rings had to be left for a further week for the setting to be rebuilt AGAIN. Not a great experience to begin with, let alone how it has continued since. I have since been into the store on at least 2 if not 3 occasions as one of the claws continually catches on fabric. Each time the jeweller in the workshop has assessed the ring & said it is all ok when it clearly is not. All that was done on each occasion was to push the claw down to try & prevent further catching - ironic that this still happens when this was the reason I originally took it in to have the setting rebuilt. As I was in Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, I decided to take the ring into Goldsmiths where we had originally purchased it from to get a second opinion as I am fed up of it catching things all the time. They have told me the diamond in the ring isn’t level & all four claws are different in both build & height. They have recommended it be estimated to see how much it is going to cost to have the ring fixed & put back into a satisfactory condition. In hindsight, I should of gone back into O’Hares & insisted it was repaired to a better standard but for obvious reasons as outlined above, I don’t now want to take the ring back into O’Hares to make a further mess of so respectfully requested a refund of the money I originally paid as I am now going to have to pay again to have this work done AGAIN. O’Hares have refused to take any accountability, stating the condition of the ring is down to daily wear, that the claws should all wear at different stages & will be subject to different impacts. They said that they wouldn’t consider any refund as the repair was done 15 months ago, but they are failing to consider the fact that I have been back in since to state my unhappiness with the work. When I told O’Hares I would leave negative reviews as I am so unhappy about their total lack of customer care, they responded by telling me they would post pictures of the ring when I collected it so I will save them the trouble & have attached it. It does show the ring looks ok when it was collected but what O’Hares have again omitted to mention is the fact that I have been back in since, so whilst it may of initially “looked” ok, it clearly wasn’t. Trading Standards have been informed. EDIT 22/01/25 in response to O’Hares response. Thank you for your response, again no acknowledgement that I had returned to store to express my dissatisfaction about the work, simply repeating that my review is 15 months later, which nobody has ever denied. The fact the the stone is safe isn’t in question or relevant. The point is, the job wasn’t carried out to a satisfactory standard in the first place. I didn’t “threaten” to leave a bad review if you didn’t refund me…to quote my email, I actually said “I have tried to be fair and request a refund on the basis of my unhappiness with both your service and aftercare, but will ensure now that I leave a bad review on any forum I can to express my utter dissatisfaction and disappointment with your business, not to mention the sheer lack of any accountability for the poor service you have provided me with”. I didn’t use this option as a “weapon” as your response would indicate, it was my only option available given you came up with no option or solution to my complaint, other than to continually repeat that it’s “15 months later” which is agreed, understood and never been in doubt! Your response further shows your total lack of care & customer service.

Finding skilled craftsmen and women to fix jewellery these days ranges from difficult to well nigh impossible. So it is with a happy heart I can tell you that O'Hares has a superb silversmith on site - and they don't charge the earth! Many of their city rivals do provide a repair service off-site by outsourcing it to another company workshop. This involves two-way postage costs and two sets of premiums, one for the mender and one for the jewellery shop. It often makes beautiful pieces that you are sentimentally attached to just not worth mending as the cost exceeds the value of the item needing repair. No such worries at O'Hares. They do everything in-house and do a cracking good job too. They came to my rescue when my over-vigourous polishing of my grandma's silver Victorian sweetheart locket managed to break the hinge. Luckily, after several jewellers priced themselves out of the repair, O'Hares was recommended to me. They did the job at a price that I could afford - and did a great job too. There must be lots of items of jewellery needing small repairs lying neglected in drawers. I suggest you dig them out and take them to O'Hares shop near the Eastgate clock and ask for an estimate. You might be very pleasantly surprised - as I was - by the very reasonable cost. Hats off, O'Hares!

I asked this excellent establishment to make me a necklace and bangle from a design I had in my head, using Australian Opels and high grade gold, also asked them to make me a pair of earrings using amethyst and once again high grade gold settings, all in time for Christmas too! My good lady wife couldn’t believe her eyes when I presented her with the necklace and bangle on Christmas morning! The earrings were for our 48th anniversary on the 1st of January, she was over the moon with the earrings as well, can’t praise this jewellers too much, perfect job made “by hand” , thanks to Steve, excellent product and brilliant service too.

Today I went to O’Hares Jewellers in Chester to have my wedding and engagement rings rhodium plated. I can honestly say the welcome and service was first class. Ian dealt with the rings and both of them were plated within a few hours. The price for them both was extremely reasonable. He also cleaned my other 2 rings ( as a goodwill gesture😀) and my husband’s wedding ring. This was an extremely quick process and they were done immediately. When we collected my plated rings they were amazing!!! So well done…but more importantly, the staff were fabulous. We also spoke to Adam, who was just as personable and professional as Ian. There was a young lady there too but I unfortunately didn’t get her name…she was also so welcoming. We would not hesitate to go back to this jewellers because it was overall a positive experience. Thank you Ian and Adam!….true...
