Sparky's Bardega — Local services in Asheville

Just after we lost power due to Helene flooding, we tried to find anywhere open with dinner food for our stranded B&B guests at Sweet Biscuit Inn. ATMs weren’t working and we only had a little cash. We were super happy to find Sparkiy’s was open and had crackers, cheese, charcuterie and hummus that we could serve that night. Someone else in line didn’t realize he couldn’t use his card and we were trying to figure out if I had enough cash to cover both of us. The person working said not to worry if we didn’t, he’d make it work for us. Turns out it I did have enough, but I felt so happy to see people taking care of one another during the traumatic time. Today we popped into Sparky’s Bardega for a quick drink. It’s a really cute convenience/souvenir shop and a bar in the middle of downtown Asheville. I am writing this review as a thank you to the woman and gentleman that were able to keep their doors open and serve the people in downtown Asheville since hurricane Helene came through.

They were one of very few stores open downtown and the first day after the storm, we had already spent the little bit of cash we had to eat so we walked into their store & explained our situation and they gave us what we needed for absolutely free.

We have gone there every day of our stay so far, and twice one day. The owners are SO friendly and kind. He gave us great tips on things to do with our kids while we chatted over a delicious mimosa flight. It’s a great place to pick up the things you need on a trip (advil, water, beer, wine…), but it goes beyond that. They have a great selection of snacks, food and drinks, a small bar and a lot of fun merch. I wish we had a store like this where we live!
