For my birthday, three of my girlfriends took me to brunch. We got to the AC Kitchen just after 10am. We sat outside, where the first thing the server told us was "We close at 11, so you'll want to order right now or take the buffet" No greeting, nothing, just that. Okay, we get it. We asked if we could order drinks and then ordered 2 bloody Mary's and 2 mimosa's.
When you say you close at xxx time, you are open, serving and meant to be attentive and accommodating to your patrons until that time. You don't run around, treating your guests as an afterthought or inconvenience while you get ready to close. When you are closed, THAT's when you do those things you need to do in order to clean up/close.
Now, I've been a bartender for years on and off. I have never, in my life, had a Bloody Mary brought in a 5 oz rocks glass with zero garnish. I asked for a lime at least and mentioned that the drink is customarily served with celery and lime, as well as salt on the rim. The server said "we don't have celery." There was no suggestion to remake/replace it; it was as if we were inconveniencing her.
Went to check out the buffet, which had very little food available 45 minutes before closing. What was there appeared to be not fresh. I ordered avocado toast, and my companions ordered breakfast tacos. Had to request salt, pepper, water, and salsa. The pepper shaker was empty when she brought it. We had to get up and find everything ourselves. The avocado toast was terrible, and my companions agreed. I told the server, and her response was, "No one else has complained." She ultimately removed it from the bill. She then said the kitchen claimed it tasted different because the avocado was frozen. Who uses frozen avocado? Really? Who even freezes avocado?
Given the number of issues we encountered, you'd think a manager or someone in authority would have checked on our table, but that didn't happen. I guess they were too busy closing down. We were rushed and treated poorly, and I would not...
Read moreFIRST I want to say that I absolutely adore the sales team!! Debbie and Emily were so sweet and helpful and patient. They let me store things at the venue so I didn’t have to make multiple trips to the hotel and helped me make menue decisions for my reception.
However, my decorations and other items were not brought up to the restaurant like they said they would be. When my sister asked where the decorations were, she was told that the only ones they had were the one bag I dropped off the day before my wedding. They were rude when asked to check the sales office where I was told to store them!! Not cool.
We had a consumption bar and were told that liquor drinks would be able to be purchased at by the guests. My fiancé, now husband, asked for a bourbon and he was told that he is not allowed to do that but if he wanted to wait until our event ended (at 3 pm) that he could order it then... why would he wait two hours to order a drink that he should have been able to purchase right there and then.
The whole banquet team decided to close up shop and clean up the food early. I think I may have gotten some eggs from my own reception. We had the venue from 11am-3pm. The banquet team was done cleaning up by 1pm. Thank you for making me feel rushed and not being able to enjoy the time I was allotted. Most of the staff were nice and I am not one for confrontation but that was really rude. I am so hurt by the way we were treated. I honestly would have never decided to go with Capella on 9 if would have known we would be treated the way...
Read moreThis restaurant located on the 9th floor of the AC motel and was gorgeous but very limited in seating space. The layout was odd. It didn’t bother us, but we were surprised by the lack of railings around the rooftop seating area. The most important issue regarding the rooftop restaurant is the pricing and/ or portion size and the odd food combinations. I’m including a picture of the scallops. This tapas style entree is priced at $20 and includes 2 scallops and a small amount of black beans. The salmon entree was a salmon filet atop of a sort of chickpea salad. The beet salad includes a couple beets cut up on a small plate. The kale salad which is advertised to come with artichoke hearts, only had a few artichoke leaves. (The next night we ate there earlier and it had artichoke hearts. They may have ran out of the hearts the first night?). The mixed drinks are very expensive here. Their version of an old fashioned is $28 for example. There are MANY great places to eat in and around town. This is not one of those great places to eat.
On a positive note, restaurant staff are fantastic, very friendly and helpful. There are filtered water refill stations and complimentary small bags of ice on each floor. However, given the issues mentioned above, guests may be better off staying at another hotel. The hotel's drawbacks may significantly impact guests' experience, and they should consider their options carefully before booking, as the AC isn’t...
