We had such a fantastic first visit with Dr. Paula G. Newton, the Endocrinologist, and her team! My 9-year-old daughter expressed how positive her experience was, which truly compelled me to write this review. She immediately recognized their professionalism.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a smile and a very friendly demeanor by Ms. Carla. She immediately made my daughter feel comfortable, gave her a sweet compliment, understood we arrived early, and truly made us feel welcomed for our first visit. Summer at the front desk was also friendly and attentive, making the initial check-in smooth.
Ms. Carla & Summer: Their warmth at the front desk set the perfect tone for our entire visit.
The medical assistant, Sondra, had a warm, friendly approach. I loved how she interacted with my daughter and even took her height three times to ensure accuracy.
Sondra: Her patience and thoroughness with my daughter were genuinely appreciated.
Samantha, the Nurse Practitioner, was just wow, wow, wow! She was incredibly detailed and engaged. You could tell she genuinely enjoys her job, and she was very personable and friendly. She never rushed us and listened intently to all my concerns. Samantha also explained in detail the appointments moving forward, and who would be meeting with our daughter – she's just a fabulous nurse. My daughter specifically highlighted her wonderful personality. Judy, the other Nurse Practitioner, was also friendly and attentive, reflecting the high standard of care.
Samantha & Judy: Their ability to connect, detailed approach, and clear communication regarding future steps made a significant impression.
Dr. Newton is the type of doctor everyone should have. Her listening ear, attentiveness, and deep understanding of her medical profession as an Endocrinologist were evident. As a dad, I truly feel she's what our young girls need. She was extremely attentive and listened to all our concerns, was incredibly thorough and patient, and I particularly appreciated how she directly addressed my daughter as the patient. My daughter also specifically highlighted Dr. Newton's wonderful personality.
Dr. Newton: Her empathetic and thorough approach made us feel completely confident...
Read moreMy son was born with a birth defect and was critically ill that resulted in him being in the hospital for a long time. The NICU here was incredible, the PICU is the reason for this review.
When my son was moved from the NICU to the PICU, my husband and I were told it was because of the excellent specialized care, but with the exception of a few doctors and nurses, that wasn’t the case.
My son experienced two UTIs back to back. Whenever we would visit him, we often would not be able to find the nurse assigned to his room. Almost every time, his diaper would be wet/soiled. He got the worst diaper rash plus UTIs, but instead of looking at the staffing of nurses/how often he is changed, doctors blamed his anatomy. (My son was eventually moved to children’s national, no UTIs since)
My son is a triplet which meant my husband and I could not stay with him 24/7, so feeling like we could not trust them with literal diaper changes was beyond frustrating. In addition to this issue, we felt the doctors did not know how to handle our son, and eventually we discussed the option of palliative care/heart transplant, with no real notice of his status being that critical until it became dire. This was from the director, Dr. Chin, who in a family meeting talked about palliative care but also talked about children’s camps he ran for kids like our son. I’m sorry, WHAT?! That family meeting was unprofessional, and we will never forget how lost, hopeless and alone we felt with this “team.”
We want to thank Dr. Benedict Fernando for coordinating our son’s quick transfer from UMMC to Children’s National. Your advocacy and transparency for his well being is something we will never forget. We also want to thank Ashton the social worker and Courtney the child life specialist who made this experience much...
Read moreAlthough I am grateful they saved my child's life, the amount of extra nonsense they put him through was ridiculous. From over sedating him, to breaking his arm at 5 weeks and getting a "sorry" and not explaining how this could even happen, to severe diaper rash and being soaking wet in urine multiple times, to getting bruises on his leg. That's not counting the horrible comments made by nurses in the hallway about a premie baby! The doctors are no better they do NOT communicate at all and when u demand for explanations you will get multiple "stories" or be told well you baby this your baby that instead of owning up to the neglect you caused my baby. Oh and don't get me started on how trashy it is. The amount to homeless and crack heads in and around the hospital what's the point of security if they just allow anything. Suppose to be a childrens hospital but it smells like weed inside and out. And discharging a NICU baby at 8pm on the street corner is absurd. Wouldn't even let us move the cone to pull up to a safe spot to load our baby. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! 10/10 WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS...
