Don’t be fooled by the generic Maine souvenirs and novelty T-shirts in the main window display, this shop has a lot more hiding inside. The store itself has been kept mostly in its original form as an old butcher shop and even has an old refrigerated display as a front counter and tracks on the ceiling in the back that was used to transport meat. Also in the rear of the store is a treasure trove of interesting items including recreation (and some genuine) military clothes and satchels, compressed hand towels in their original packaging from a Swiss airline, an assortment of old postcards that date back to the early 1900’s, a bin full of various patches ranging from soviet military insignias, local soccer and football clubs, and defunct pharmaceutical company logos, and a bunch of other interesting items. This store was so cute and unexpectedly full of military-themed apparel. They also had some of the cutest sweatshirts and tshirts that we saw from the whole main street! I got the cutest Maine magnet from here to commemorate the trip and my wife got a “bottoms up” shot glass with a moose on it. The lady working that day (possible co-owner) Jessica, was really sweet and gave us the back story on Bar Harbor and the 1947 fire. She told us a lot about the prohibition era and the reading room. My husband (a veteran) took my son in here for a souvenir knowing they have some military surplus items; my son admires our military & his daddy. Today is the day the CDC ruled if we were vaccinated we didn't have to wear masks, which is also what their sign read. The elderly grey haired woman was a horrid person and attempted to yell at us, even though we had our vaccination cards on us. After realizing she was wrong, she started to make a scene and yell at our 4 year old for not wearing a mask properly. DO NOT SHOP HERE! Talk about anti-American...
