Today was my first time taking this class. During the session, the instructor did not pay much attention to me or help correct my form, while she spent a lot of time adjusting other students’ movements. However, after class, the first thing she said to me — in front of everyone — was that she had to slow down the class because I was new.
This was very surprising and upsetting, as I did not receive any extra support during class, nor did I feel she adjusted the pace for me. The only time she interacted with me was to adjust the reformer length because it was not set up correctly — something other students didn’t have an issue with.
I found this comment uncalled for, especially since I am not a beginner and was able to follow all instructions independently. If the instructor had any concerns about safety or class fit, it would have been more appropriate to contact me beforehand — I signed up for the class a week ago — or to speak to me privately.
I came to learn and participate respectfully. Instead, I left feeling unfairly singled out and blamed for something I had no control over. I hope this feedback can be taken seriously, as I would expect a more welcoming and professional...
Read moreI've always had a pleasant experience doing Pilates here. The instructors are great, the equipment is new, and the environment is quiet and comfortable. However, during the 12:00 PM class on Monday, I took a Reformer Flow session and I'm not sure if I experienced racial discrimination. The instructor touched my body to guide movements, which is normal. But notably, after guiding my leg movements, she made a very obvious motion of wiping her hands on her pants, which was very clear. At that moment, I thought I might be overthinking it, but it didn’t stop there; she immediately used hand sanitizer as well, filling the room with the smell of alcohol. To make sure I wasn’t overthinking, I observed her interactions with other students. She didn’t wipe her hands or use sanitizer after guiding anyone else, only after me. There were six students in total, and I was the only Asian. BTW I'm absolutely sure I wasn’t sweating. This experience made me feel very very...
