FRAUDULENT CLAIMS and NO RESPECT FOR CLIENTS
Do NOT shop at this business or engage in repairs/alteration of jewelry! I was told I could have the links removed on a gold watch, that was an irreplaceable family heirloom, within two days. The watch was sent out of the store. This was followed by 5 WEEKS of me relentlessly calling to retrieve my watch and being treated with DISSCONTENT and unmet promises/excuses by Jed Anderson. Ultimately I had to have a 3rd party retrieve the watch for me (WHICH HAD NOT THE AGREED UPON LINKS EVEN REMOVED).
Details: I had such a nightmare of a time dealing with this business. I took my great grandmother’s gold watch in to have a few links removed, this was measured for etc. I was working with Jed Anderson, who told me this could be done in a maximum of 2 days and they would also do a free appraisal of the watch which I accepted. I was very clear and adamant about the fact that I was moving states and I had to have the watch back within two weeks time (I gave a specific date). Portsche’s Jewelry sent the watch out of store and did not get it back to me before I moved (despite ME calling, checking up, etc.). After I moved, I was promised that the watch would be returned to the store and expedited to my home in another state the next day after again calling/following up. ANOTHER 2 weeks pass and this doesn’t happen. I call and they don’t know where the watch is. They call me back a few days later saying the watch is not at the store and they can get the work done in 4-8 weeks, after 4 weeks having already passed. Ultimately I had to speak to the owner because Jed Anderson was not following through on his claims to return this heirloom back to me (or even remembering the promise to ship the next day). Finally I arranged a 3RD PARTY to retrieve the watch for me. The best part? THEY DIDN’T EVEN REMOVE THE LINKS! I did not feel respected as a customer seeing that I was the one having to call and request they follow through on our agreed upon work and listen to the OWNER’S excuses of why this wasn’t his fault and take an attitude with me. So much of MY WASTED TIME went into this without even receiving the service promised, not to mention the EMOTIONAL DISTRESS of feeling disrespected and of not knowing where this irreplaceable, valuable jewelry was or if it would ever be in my possession again.
That said, I can in no way recommend this business to anyone. I would not even go to shop considering the way they treat...
Read moreI feel obligated to share my experience with this retailer. I will try to be brief. I received a vintage turquoise silver ring as a gift, and have had to have it repaired 3 times. It is now broken again. This all happened within 9 month period. Repair 1: a few hours after wearing the ring a piece of the silver (a feather) fell off. I collected the piece and saved it. They reattached the piece and sized the ring. Repair 2: the soldering that attaches the ring to the band detached on one side. They reattached it or repaired it. It was after this that I noticed that it didn't look right. It looked like it wasn't soldered with real silver when I compared it to my other vintage rings it just looked like it wasn't done well. Repair 3: the feather fell off again, this time it was lost. When my boyfriend took the ring in the goldsmith questioned my boyfriend, asking "how active I was, and what I was doing to break the ring," he then told my boyfriend, "he would be sure to make the ring bomb proof," which I found to be pretty insulting. I have many vintage pieces that I have worn for years with no problems. He made a new feather, this time it looked like it was made with and attached with real silver. Repair 4 (took ring to a different jewelry store): the solder that attaches the ring to the band broke again, and then while the ring was sitting safely in my car ashtray, which was closed so that nothing could touch the ring, the band broke onto two pieces where it had been sized.
After the goldsmith at the new store came back with a quote of $120 for repairs he explained that the goldsmith at Portsche's had used a soft solder and it had contaminated the silver in my ring and that's why it was so fragile in the places that it had been repaired. Because it was contaminated it needed extensive repairs now.
Long story short. If you buy jewelry from here, make sure they are pieces that have not been touched by their goldsmith. Do not have anything you buy repaired, or sized here. Those that have had good luck with this retailer thus far, I am happy for you but, use caution if you notice things are breaking... I would advise avoiding this retailer...
Read moreI took a ring, a family heirloom, to Portshce's to be appraised. The weight on the appraisal said it was 20% less than the original receipt and previous appraisals had it at. The total value of the ring they put on the appraisal, was less than half of what the appraisal a few years prior had it valued at. I told Valerie I could bring in the old appraisals, but she said to not bother because she never changes an appraisal after she completes one, and that they would not purchase it for any more than that. I told her that it is a family heirloom and I never intend on selling it. She said it didn't matter and walked away. I also had it resized and re-tipped. The ring had a visible, rough crack where it was resized.
I contacted the owner, Philip Portsche, and he said to bring in the ring for him to look at. He took the stone out and it weighed 20% more than what was on their appraisal. Phillip said he would write the correct weight on a new appraisal, but the value would not be increased by much. He said the value of diamonds has gone down because of synthetic ones on the market. The second appraiser I went to said this is not true, and in fact the value for real diamonds has gone up. He also tried to fix he crack Valerie put in it, but it still had a visible line in it. I asked him where the platinum was from the resizing. He said they took the value of it off the final bill, and I could buy it back if it meant that much to me. The price of the platinum was not included in the breakdown of the final bill. I do not recommend going to this store for an appraisal. My whole experience with them made me feel undervalued as a customer and my sentimental ring was undervalued too. I had to pay for another appraisal at a different jeweler. The second appraiser got the weight correct, without even taking it out of the setting. They also valued it at triple the cost that Portsche's did. Thank goodness I had the previous appraisals. If I didn't, I would have believed what Portsche's valued it at. I expressed how upset I was to Philip and he gave me a refund on...
