I googled Swedish candy and this came up. I went here NOT knowing this was a new hotspot. Got there and decided to wait in line (I was already there like, whatever). the line moved kinda quick like idk. The chopsticks.. cute, yea, it is a good idea, they get points for that. But here's an ‼️experience for someone going casually: !!!you cannot self serve the Swedish candy or any of the stuff you see online ok!!! Which is fine...but I was surprised that it was packaged by employees (who were all great, srs but whatever). I should note it was $10 for 8 pieces -- yea e.i.g.h.t. pieces-- of the skulls and tutti frutti or whatever total, TOTAL!. A bigger one for more candies or whatever. Honestly ridiculous. It's fine. Their regular self serve candy is okay? It's also maybe "Swedish candy" (like what the hell does that even mean anyways?????). It's whatever. And they kinda rope you into getting their house candy? Cuz like u get in the line and you train through the store with all these people and you're scooping shit thinking you'll get to the stuff you recognize and you dont. The Swedish candy, idk,...
Read moreTruthfully, not an enjoyable experience in the shop. I'm more of an alternative dressing person, tattoos and piercings. I was looked at up and down as soon as I stepped in, making me feel like I shouldnt be allowed to in unless I looked like I was from the South End. Followed their instructions, and while I was picking my candy, there was a marketing team in there who fully disregarded me. This wouldn't have been so off-putting if they hadn't immediately asked 2 women walking in after me if they were okay being on camera. They were older than me and dressed more like a typical South End person. As I went to check out, One of the blonde girls behind the counter literally just stared at me silently. The other told me to put my candy on the scale and then didn't even say the price, just sat there silently waiting for me to pay. If you're looking for someone who is actually passionate about what they do and aren't just hopping on trends, I highly recommend Sweets by Swedes in Hull, MA. Run by the sweetest swedish woman ever, tons of amazing options as well as...
Read moreAs a self proclaimed swedish candy expert (and addict), I was so excited to see this candy shop pop up. Living in New Jersey I would frequently drive into NYC for BonBon, as well as IKEA when they offered it (devastated when it went away!). I finally made it to Madeleine's today to purchase some birthday and Easter goodies for friends and family. The shop is absolutely adorable and the clerks friendly and helpful. They had clean individual use tongs available and four walls of binned candy to choose from. For $16/lb, you can select your own assortment of candies from around the world (mostly USA, some Brazil, Spain, Canada, but surprisingly only a couple of actual swedish options). We filled our bags and went to the counter to find that they had separated the swedish candy and are selling 1/4 and 1/2 lb prefilled bags at $40/lb. I was surprised to see it separated, and the clerks explained the Swedish candy "sells out too fast". I was hoping to see more Swedish candy options, but the selection was still good and I left with some...
