Iāve had a lot of massages and frequent really nice establishments like Intercontinental because I know when I am there, I will get my moneys worth. I have visited Intercontinental hotels in a number of countries and have grown to trust their brand.
I booked a massage at the Intercontinental Boston because Iāve been traveling extensively lately. Being out of my normal routine has caused tightness & soreness in my body so I was really looking forward to my 90 minute massage! I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could book an appointment for the next day after my plane arrived. The front desk at the spa was super helpful!
When I got to the spa, I was excited and I added on some extra treatment options: yoga balm and hot stones. My treatment was expected to be $300+ which I was happy to pay. I quickly changed into my robe and went back for my treatment.
I had a male provider which did not bother me at all, Iāve had both male & female massage therapists in my past. I explained to the guy what was ailing me and why I was there. He kept commenting on how my hip was tight (yes, thatās why Iām here, please help!). I laid on the bed and the service began. To my surprise it was a lot of rubbing with very little pressure, a lot of tugging on my limbs, and randomly shaking my body partsā¦.not your typical deep tissue massage at all. I kept waiting for him to straighten out my fascia or provide some relief but it never came. He put more oil on me than any massage therapist Iāve ever had before, I felt like I was soaking the sheets. He needs to work on his sheet management as there was a lot of inappropriate grazing. It happened quickly but didnāt go unnoticed. Iām not trying to get anyone in trouble but Iāve not had that happen before so it was very noticeable. To his credit, he did ask frequently how it was going but Iām not sure how to stop in a service and say āyouāre not doing anything for me.ā Maybe one day Iāll learn.
I enjoyed the steam room a lot! It was a bit odd that they had shampoo, conditioner, hair dryers but no disposable combs. The bathrooms were not very clean either, not what Iād expect from Intercontinental.
I spent time in the bar afterwards and have to say that this is a very nice hotel, I would have just expected WAY more from their spa. Seems like a waste of money, I wouldnāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHave stayed at the InterContinental many times and finally made it to the spa. The front desk staff was friendly and quick. Once in the changing area ("locker room") it was rather messy which was surprising considering the InterContinental hotel is always very clean. There were several pairs of "slippers" (rubber sandals) all over the ground (like 4-5 pairs all over the floor around the lockers where people had changed and left), the bathrooms were relatively clean and well stocked.
The waiting area before the massage was comfortable and clean. One of the staff who was not performing any service was sitting in one of the rooms listening to tik toks on their phone which was some what distracting from the experience.
My therapist Colleen was very friendly and nice and asked me questions prior to beginning. The massage was decent. Table was warmed, hot stones were nice and hot. Colleen suggested adding "yoga balm" which was really lovely as well. The pressure was decent. It just wasn't a Swedish massage to me. I was not expecting pressure at all but it was more rubbing than massaging. I would have preferred a bit more massaging.
Overall the experience was fine - I wouldn't go back there because I feel that there are better experiences in Boston for the same price (or less) but Colleen was very nice and I appreciated her...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGot a really nice massage here and it was so enjoyable. The staff was friendly, the place was very clean, and the facilities are open to you as long as you are getting a service. There's a pool on site, sauna, gym, locker room, etc. This was my 2nd time ever coming here, (covid messed everything up) but the professionalism hasn't waiverd. Lamara was a great massuer and although Robyn didn't work on me, she was great and super helpful. Both women are very strong and you will not be disappointed in their services. The 90min massage is more expensive than the 60 min but it's worth the price! Both are worth it but if you really need to get knots out, the extra 30min comes in handy! Thanks again ladies for all your help.
Alyson who helped me get my reservation together and let me know what was available was also very great. She was awesome and friendly, remembered my name, and answered all of my questions. Can't...
