Worst experience ever!
We went in a group of 4 which was the largest all adult group that particular day and for sure caught more fish than anyone else as a collective group, but yet at the end of the trip we were left with 10-15 less fish on our stringer. When you catch a fish you rely on the deck hands to put your fish on a stringer but have no way of knowing if they are putting it on yours or someone else’s. At the end of the trip everyone had around the same amount of fish on their stringers which for a fact I’ve seen some people catch 1 fish the whole time and still had the close to the same amount. My assumption is that everyone paid so they try to split the fish evenly so it seems like everyone was on fish. What’s worse is they knew and made us go second to last when fileting our fish so that even if we complained all other groups already got their fish and were gone from site. They want everyone to be happy at the cost of your effort and $! If your okay with that then this is your boat.
Other issues to note
We waited for a late person so we left late and came back before queen fleet! I asked and they said if we leave late we will give you more time? We left after queen fleet and beat them back?
The cook had the worsts adittude ever! Like others have said he was more concerned about fishing than doing his job. Where we come from we call soda “pop”. A friend asked for pop as a second nature and he said you expected me to know what that is? Doesn’t ask politely for orders and is always in a rush to go fishing. Don’t bother asking him for anything as he will ruin your day. He is very picky on when he wants to cook not when you want to eat.
As stated above, them stringing your fish is a major issue and flawed!!!
They ask you to tip the deck crew which we gave Generously to be cheated fish and were second to last to get our fish filet. 30 /1 hour wait depending on group size. Don’t tip when getting off the boat, tip after you see your stringer and how well your fish was filet. Imagine tipping a waiter prior to service and getting served last and getting half your food order. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
They only provide squid as bait which means you will be catching small fish, those photos with big fish are from people who purchased bait else were. The spots they take you are for white grunt so plan on one type of fish only.
All in all it’s a cheap way to try fishing in Clearwater but if you plan to use them do your research and prepare heavily before deciding...
Read moreThis is a tough one to review, but I thought it was important to post… the boat itself is fine. It’s really nice that there is an air condition, comfortable seats, along with some areas to lay down if needed. Separate bathrooms for men and women. You could bring your own food and drinks on board, but they also sell food and drinks at a reasonable price. I went on this boat for a private charter with work. It was mid May so it was hot, but not awful. I only saw two guys actually helping with the fish and tagging them once caught. I did not feel I got much help with the actual fishing. I ended up taking off all but one of my fish. The one I did not take off was because it’s swallowed the hook, and I did not have tools to take it off. I even rehooked my line. I ended up using my own towel to take off fish, because I never received hand towels to takeoff the fish or wipe my hands after putting on bait. They do give you a mixture of squid and hearing for bait. I only caught six fish which were small but I kept them to have small fillets. We saw one guy keep a 22 inch Grouper. Mainly caught Porgy, grunts, and squirrel fish- which will vary depending on what time of the year you go out. This was a full day trip. We got in about 5pm and I got on just before 8am. Don’t forget to get the code for parking which is $10 . I would not suggest for you to get your fish fillet. The one guy did not do well at filleting at all so if you get yours fillet watch who’s doing it. You may also have to wait several hours for your fish to get fillets. The guys seem to be OK working on the boat but once they were off the boat filleting they were not professional at all, and I mentioned many times that there were women present to watch their language. These were not just curse words these were vulgar statements. So overall yes I would do this again., no, I would not get my fish fillet at all. Suggestions is to bring a decent size cooler, with a bottle of water per hour per person, lots of sunscreen, long sleeve SPF shirt, lightweight pants, and a hat. Bring a lot of snacks because it’s a long day. Grab yourself a hand towel You don’t mind getting dirty and stinky or throwing out perhaps. Make sure you have cash on hand to tip the guys if you feel warranted but also to purchase additional items. The event would have been better if they had more experienced...
Read moreFather's Day weekend we booked a half day fishing trip. There were ten people in our group. We made the reservation well in advance and paid in full. Upon arriving the owner's wife made an error with our reservation and only had half our group on the manifest. Moments before leaving the dock she flew on the boat screaming my name and berated me in front of many of the passengers, including my 8 year old son, for her mistake. Not a great way to start the trip. Also, I asked about there Covid policy. I was told they would operate at 50% capacity. This was NOT the case. We were elbow to elbow on the boat. They packed in as many passengers as possible. Their profitability was more important than passenger safety. The Captain did not get us on any fish during our charter. Our group had the most catches of the day, so you could say we were the "best of the worst". Very disappointing for the kids in our group and quite boring. Also, the equipment was not well-maintained and the boat could have been cleaner, especially in light of Covid. When the owner finally called, a week later, he defended his wife and said, "they have been married for 15 years and she would never act like that." Well sir, I have 10 other witnesses, plus the other passengers that witnessed her behavior, but you can be in denial about how she represents your company and how she treats your customers. Poor customer satisfaction, poor customer experience, no regard for safety, and did not offer an apology or take responsibility for what happened. It is sad because my family and I have been a patron of the Double Eagle for over 35 years, which the owner showed no appreciation or regard for. We will be taking our business else where and WE DO NOT RECOMMEND this fishing charter company. Take your business to someone that...
