This was not real ice and did not skate well at all. We went as a family group and paid for all members of our family and only had one pair of good skates of our own. The pair we brought was the only pair that could actually glide on the fake plastic ice. The rental skates the rest of the group used had less friction sideways than normal gliding. Essentially it was harder to glide than it was to do a hockey stop, exactly the opposite of how ice skating should work. When one member of our group complained that the skates were dull, the kiosk manager snapped at her. We skated for about 10 minutes before deciding this wasn’t worth our time or effort. Read moreWonderful! This new gathering and entertainment space is exactly what Deadwood needed for residents and tourists to more fully enjoy Main Street! I’m impressed with their efforts to compliment the architecture and materials of the historic buildings that surround it. The gazebo is a replica of one from the 1890s that was located at Lee Street and Pioneer Way. I love the holiday decorations and watching people ice skate. I’m looking forward to summer activities too, like movie nights, weekly concerts, farmers markets and other festivals....
Read moreI love all the new activities added to Deadwood & Lead for families to enjoy, so when I seen they added ice skating rink I had to check it out! Sadly I was disappointed as it's not ice at all and very hard to skate on! The guy doing payments & ice skate hand outs was quiet grumpy and I was hoping being extra nice might change his grumpy self but I think i just made him even more grumpy with my happy delightful self! I would of liked to see the rink rules posted more places like around the rink & around the seating areas. Likely not...
