UPDATE: The owner reached out to me and let me tell you that she truly cares about her store and her patrons. Thanks Sarah! Please visit this place when you are in Eureka and support the locals. I grew up in Eureka and usually come home once or twice a year. I love this place, and my family and I always buy mementos from this store when we visit. And yes, the items may be higher priced, but much of it is handmade from local artists - which is amazing! You will find things you won’t anywhere else. Well worth the prices and better than going to the local mall. With that being said, my husband and I were recently there (January 6) and were excited to check out the new expansion. Sadly, the woman behind the counter made our experience less than ideal. She barely acknowledged us when we came in and didn’t really want to chat when I told her how awesome the expansion looked. We honestly felt like she either (1) did not want to be there or (2) didn’t want us to be there or maybe it was both. This was the complete opposite of past experiences. I have always encountered friendly staff at Humboldt Mercantile, so I was a bit bummed. We still threw down some cash and enjoyed the new shop, but I’m not sure I will return in the future. It was just an uncomfortable situation that I would like to avoid in the future. Hopefully the expansion didn’t change the charm of this place because it truly was a gem of a store.

If you are in the area and would like to get gifts for your family or friends or even as a souvenir gift for yourself, this is a good stop and shop place for that. Also they have a wine tasting room- not sure what’s the schedule for it because we are not alcohol drinkers. Last time we visited, the room was open and it was super busy. My husband and I frequently visit this store to enjoy some of the local made stuff as sometimes is hard to find them around. We also buy list of gifts for our families and we always hear amazing things. Staff are very friendly and if they discontinue anything you like, just ask them and they will guide you to how you can get the product. I love that they have delivery/shipping options. You can shop, but the stuff in a box and they take care of the shipping process for you. We will be visiting them again soon,

I loooove this shoppe, so much to look at in this well laid out store. There is literally something for everyone. My favorite is to do birthday and Christmas gift shopping here, because
what do you get for that mature loved one who has everything? A little sample of Humboldt flavors! Take your time, drift through and get a good look at all this compact store has to offer. Have questions? Just ask! The knowledgeable shop staff has loads of info to impart. Compact, not over cluttered, it’s so well laid out you’ll think you’re in the big city but without the sticker shock. Posh but down home, there’s lots of local artisans that’s contribute so you are guaranteed a one of a kind gift.
