By far the best outdoor equipment shopping experience I have ever had. I first went into Epic Mountain Gear in January of this year, frustrated by my visits to other retailers in the area I had almost given up with the regional stores. After walking in, I was welcomed by several associates. Eventually being helped by Charlie, who was exceptional; friendly, smart, articulate and genuinely interested in helping my friend and me.
Expressing interest in several pairs of boots, Charlie made sure to delve deeper into what I needed out of a boot and helped find a fit that was appropriate for my skill level, wallet and was even comfortable! During our conversation, his product and area knowledge was evident. Afterward, I asked for some time to look around while he assisted other customers. I continued to peruse the store and found myself once again asking Charlie for his assistance. We spoke in depth about different backcountry safety equipment, which evolved further.
My friend and I ended up back in Epic Mountain Gear the next day to find answers to questions that we believed Charlie had. Our discussion of gear for certain conditions resulted in a look at skis, clothing, etc. The entire time I didnât feel as if I was being âsoldâ anything, but just informed about what would best suit my needs given the information I was telling him.
After spending some time in Epic Mountain Gear I left with knowledge, equipment I truly needed, and a friend (in addition to the one I brought in initially). The three of us had an enjoyable day of backcountry skiing later that week and a short morning at Breckenridge.
I have recommended this shop without reservation to any friends or family members traveling to Summit County and will continue to do so.
In an entirely separate trip, completely independent of the store, I had the pleasure of paragliding with Charlie. It was a...
Read moreHad reservations for both a set of skis and ski boots, as well as a snowboard setup with boots. First problem was upon walking in to begin picking up our reservation, we were immediately informed that "yeah, we don't have some of the stuff for your rentals so you'll have to go somewhere else once we give you what we do have." The employee who was assisting us, Aiden, was extremely rude when speaking with us about sizing for the boots for both my 17 and 15 year old. They told them their sizes, he retrieved boots, and when they tried them on they both complained of the fit being uncomfortable. They asked to try on a half size larger, and his response was "no you don't need to, those are the right size, I know what I'm talking about." Our son just accepted his boots, however, our daughter asked to try a half size bigger. He again chose to correct her and tell her she was wrong, but finally got her another pair when she persisted. However, he brought her a pair that was 1.5 sizes bigger, which we noticed after she said they felt too big and he told her "I told you I was right." (We didn't realize they were that much bigger until he was taking them away) Had he chose to be polite and educate someone in the correct ways they should fit, that would have been one thing. However, he instead chose to be rude and condescending, speaking as though we clearly are uneducated and don't know anything, that he is the one with all of the knowledge and experience. I realize this is his job and he's knowledgeable in his position providing gear to people who are renting for a short time, but I would encourage him to learn how to adjust his tone and be mindful how he speaks to someone in a customer service position--your attitude speaks volumes about...
Read moreI had a really really bad customer service experience!! I bought a gravel bike a month ago that was a little too big for me, but The guy that sold it to me told me to try it anyways and if anything return it before the 30 days. There werenât many other options out there anyway. When I bought it, the bike had a scratch and the handle wraps were damaged, they didnât replace it at the moment, and I paid full price. I bought it, test it and still felt weird on it, a couple of weeks later I left it at their shop 4 days to see if they could fix the steam, handle bars, or something to make it more comfortable (always with the intention to keep it), I took it there before my return policy expired. When I picked it up 4 days later, I asked the manager to help me find a solution bc I did felt that it was too big for me, and instead of helping they said that they would take it back but they would discount $500 or more bc of the scratches and the handle wraps that were already damaged when I bought it!! Does that mean I shouldâve gotten a discount for that?? Plus, that doesnât cost a minimal fraction compared to the price of the bike. After all that, they recommended me to sell it and get a new one somewhere else⌠really? Is that the solution youâre giving me?? very unprofessional and rude people!!. I definitely recommend REI, I had to take my bike there and they fixed my handles and steam!! FOR FREE just to try and give me a solution to feel comfortable on a bike that I didnât buy there. REI 100%!!! Epic⌠horrible experience and VERY...
