A gem in downtown Homer. Though somewhat small, it is crammed with exhibits that provide an insight into the people who came to Alaska for a fresh start. Lots of interact areas with audio about the settlers, plan to spend a lot of time if you get hooked on one of the stories. We also enjoyed the videos in the basement area with the wildlife displays. A plus for my wife who is a quilter were a number of quilts around the building including one that was being raffled off. Outside is a example of a settler cabin including the out-building. A very nice option on any day but especially if you need to find an inside activity on inclement weather.

Small.. Cheap.. Lots of information. Older lady at desk was very helpful and knew quiet a bit about the culture and history. It has local art from modern age people within the last few years and also stuff from tribes many years ago.. The back has animal info and a bird watching camera feed from bird island. Its worth going to once u hit homer to better appreciate ur surroundings

It's such a great museum for learning about local and state history! They have a lot of hand son activities for kids and adults. There's an interactive web camera on Gull Island, underwater cameras at katmai Park, microscopes and more!

This was just okay. There was an art exhibit going on when we were here. The Harrington house outside was cool to learn about the early Homer homesteading. This part is free. The museum proper costs $15 for adults if you’re not a member. It has a variety of Alaskan related memorabilia, including some taxidermy of wild life. You wouldn’t need more than an hour to look through things. So by that standard, I think the price was a bit high. Also a tour bus came and it became too crowded to be enjoyable. I think the admission...

Bearing in mind that Homer is a fairly small town, it's a slight surprise there's a museum here at all. It's not a large building by any means, (but they do really maximize the use of the space that is available. There's art, videos, and information on the native peoples of the area, the history of the region, and life in a small seafaring community. There's also a historic cabin (which unfortunate you can't actually enter) that shows how old timers lived in the homesteading era. Price is $15, although there are...
