WOW! Where do I start? We decided to go to Jim Thorpe for the day to see the sights. We parked in the lot next to the train station....(what a busy confusing parking area with bikes, cars, trucks, and foot traffic all together.) We went to get tickets to ride the train and that's is where we found out we should have paid at a kiosk after parking. It was only 10 minutes later when I went to pay for my parking and the little round man (TOD) with his hand held ticket printer gave me a $20 fine. I explained that it was a simple mistake and he said "that's a shame, but I can't do anything about it. But you can go see the Commissioners in the building across the street". So I went to explain my issue, to bring light to a confusing parking system they have. I had to go through it with 3 people before a very rude Commissioner (WAYNE E. NOTHSTEIN) came out to say "What's your problem?" I again explained it to him and he said, "I can't cater to everyone who wants to complain, I just don't care" I asked "you don't care"? That's a poor attitude to have with your position, I replied. He told me that he was sticking to his guns, and I would have to pay the ticket. I left him know he could read my review. He again replied "I DON'T CARE!" Other than the train ride this is a tourist trap. I counted 8 fines on windshields going through the lot as we left the last place in the world I will...
Read moreWent to visit the town a few weekends ago. We had a trialer on the back of our pickup truck so I specificly look for a parking lot we could park in. Online it says trailer parking is avabile. So we got there early in the morning and at first did not see the truck-trailer spots. Then we finally found them there was only two of them. Online it said Saturdays-Sundays for trailer it would be $30.00. Turns out its was $75.00!!! That is crazy! I tried to talk to the man that worked at the parking lot booth, but he very rude and no help at all! There isn't any other parking around the town if you have a trailer with you. So after 45 minutes of trying to find a spot to visit the town we ending up leaving frustrated. So just beware that the online prices may not be accurate. I even mentioned to the worker that online it said $30.00 and he said oh that is the "old price". It is $30.00 on the weekend for cars, but for trailers it was...
Read moreIf you're an out of towner looking to park to enjoy the train ride or the town, be careful. Despite there not being signage for it, apparently there's portions of parking for employees only that if you try to park in will earn you a cussing and screaming out by the attendants, despite agreeing to back out and leave the spot. Came with the family and was waiting for a car to pass to back out after having our window knocked on being cussed at to leave right off the bat, agreed to leave and park somewhere else but before we could pull out, lady had brought over two other attendants to join in on the screaming at us. Bizarre experience, probably won't be back to Jim Thorpe despite loving the town itself because of it. There's really nowhere else to park besides this...
