Fall is a beautiful time of the year to visit Mauch Chunk Train station. Very fun and family friendly experience. The ride was relaxing, scenic, and educational.
Arrive at least one hour early. If you have a party 4 or greater and you would like to sit together arrive earlier if it is important for you to sit together. The train ride round trip is around 45 minutes. The staff were very friendly and excited to share the history of the train and the region. There is a step that folks need to step up to enter the train.
Use park mobile app for parking to save time.
You can pack for a picnic or enjoy local food spots around the train station. There is also a nice public park.

We live in the Chicago area but if ever visiting the area again, would love to hit up JT again. I hope the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway stays open for...

There was trash alongside the train trails. At one point the announcer mentioned we'd be passing an old command center building that is no longer used, it was literally a small structure falling apart covered in graffiti. Was expecting something that was preserved because of the history of it. The train ride is actually 30 minutes out then they just reverse and go back to...
