Everyone here was so warm & friendly! My family and I visited this store while in port during a cruise. It had been a long day for our hungry and cranky 7 year old daughter. The ladies here took time to talk to her and turned her attitude around and had her laughing in no time! She received a beautiful necklace that she has been attached to ever since. They have a very beautiful and diverse selection of jewelry from local artisans as well, I ended up with unique porcupine quill earrings. My husband wanted a totem pole while on our trip and picked out a replica at this store. While they were more than willing to sell him whatever he picked, we were helped to appreciate the value and workmanship of purchasing an authentic totem pole from local artists. We ended up leaving to go grab a bite to eat and returned later. They remembered us and even remembered the authentic totem my husband was drawn to. We are very happy with the one we ended up bringing home, it is beautiful and has meaning behind it. All of the ladies here were so friendly and helpful. The store had a family-like feel and made us wish we lived closer in order to be able to visit again. Thank you so much for being a memorable stop on our...
Read moreCaribou Crossing/ The Alaska Box may be a 5 star store. My experience overall is 2. My son sent us a gorgeous glass fish art piece. It was over $600 incl. shipping, and it arrived with possible damage. That means it looks like it has a crack, and my fingernail catctches along the line. It is not continuously smooth like the remaining 99% of the piece. I took pictures of the glass piece, and the packaging and sent them along to Caribou Cr. I received a reply that they would forward the email to the artist, for their advice. The artist replied that's how it's supposed to be. So, except for the place where my fingernail catches...I might agree. I have other fused pieces. I asked a local glass studio to look at it for me (in MA), and they declined stating they would agree with artist. My advice: if you fall in love with a glass piece, try to do it LOCALLY. Avoid shipping for obvious reasons. If you are in AK and are taken and must have it......inspect it carefully and take pictures, just in case you have questions later. It may save you some grief later on. Update: I'm re assessing my review as the owner of Caribou Crossings is giving me options and doing everything to make this a positive...
Read more2nd UPDATE: I have received my items and have been in contact with the store a few times. It sounds like they had a technical outage impacting email and phone systems. The owner was very apologetic and even sent a gift as an apology. Honestly, I'm impressed with how they responded.
UPDATE - the store finally responded to my email and I believe my order will be fulfilled now.
I'm writing this review in hopes of getting a response from this store. I visited them a month ago, during a cruise. We thought the store was great and purchased two art pieces (~$1200). Since then, I've attempted to contact them to obtain an estimated delivery date, shipping details or any information about our purchase. I've emailed three times with no response. I've called dozens of time, again, no response and no voicemail box. If you visit this store, be cautious about placing an order because you may never hear...
