Updated This review was for our first couple of months at Glo. After that first couple of months, it quickly dropped to one start and maintained that standing for the duration of our time. I have deterred many from the experience we had and would STRONGLY recommend you reconsider if you are even thinking of moving here.
Staff - The staff is excellent, always helpful, and resolve issues quickly - especially Cortez. In all honesty, his care and compassion for Glo residents' quality of life is what attracted us to these apartments. You truly get the sense that he cares about the community, and works to ensure you fell at home.
Location – The location is perfect. DTLA without being DTLA, if you know what I mean :). Great views of the city and walking distance to anything you could want. 5 minute walk from the 7th street metro station, so you’re essentially a 5 minute walk from anywhere you want to be. Heading east towards downtown, I’ve never felt uncomfortable walking around at night. Heading west… it gets a little sketch at night once you get past a couple of blocks; same as any neighborhood you’ll find, though – just be smart.
Building – The building is great. Modern living + tons of great amenities and convenience throughout (nice to have a Starbucks you can get to without going outside ). Equity repainted the building to make it look a bit more crisp; and it’s great! IMHO, it looked fine before, but looks great now. I know there’s also a move to revamp some of the kitchens throughout the building – again, look good now but excited to see what comes from it!
Noise/Disturbances - The building itself is quiet for the most part. Occasionally you'll have a rowdy group or college-esque party issues, but they usually keep to their groups. Once you get to your apartment, you can’t really hear anything from the common areas. The windows are a bit thin, however, so outside noises (cars, people on the street, etc) tend to be heard at night when all else is quiet. Also, the building is a smoke-free campus, which is perfect!! They work hard to ensure the smell of cigarettes doesn’t hinder anyone else’s experience. Unfortunately, people occasionally stand on their balconies and smoke, which is a bit of an inconvenience when we have the windows open to enjoy the weather. Granted, the staff has vowed to address our specific case and we’ve seen less of it recently.
Amenities - The amenities are great if you actually use them. I personally think it would be great if they put incentives around utilizing the amenities (i.e., hosted gatherings to bring people out there, and allow them to mingle). On that note, I do wish the complex admin hosted more resident-events. The lack of such events, today, imho, hinders the "neighborhood" mentality I like to see in my community.
Security – Probably my biggest complaint with the complex. They have someone walking around the property from 7p to 3a. This doesn’t sit well with me. If the office staff doesn’t arrive until 9 or 10, that leaves nearly 7 hours of no authority in the complex – and the complex is huge (for the area/type). In addition to that, the police don’t have a code to enter and the door must be manually opened for guests (you can’t unlock from your phone). So if you do have an emergency involving a call to the police, you basically have to leave your apartment to open the door to let them in – exposing yourself in the process. I was told that, in these cases, we should contact security then the police – but if security is not on premise during those hours, and they have to drive from whatever location they’re at, it doesn’t make sense. I’ve addressed this a few times with the staff, but it doesn’t sound like there’s anything in the pipeline to fix this. Hopefully this can be revisited soon – there are just too many people to not have a dedicated person on...
Read moreBeen living here for about a year now and I can honestly say the $3000 monthly rent is not worth what you actually get. Nothing about the apartment has felt luxurious, apart from there being an elevator and a package room (which frequently breaks). I personally have had no issues with the staff, they were always helpful when they were needed. My BIGGEST issue was how incredibly low-grade our 2b/2bath apartment is. When we first moved in: the bathroom sink and kitchen counter needed to be recaulked, there were brown crusted on the outside of the toilet, exposed wired in the bedroom, broken blinds, old and later broken shower heads, incredibly dirty (and moldy?) dishwasher, top of cabinets were VERY sticky and had tons of dead fruit flies, parts of inside the fridge were missing, drawers were broken, the “hardwood” floors are dented across the apartment, didn’t bother to clean up the spray paint residue when they re-sprayed the cabinets and drawers, in-unit washer was dirty, and we’ve found several roaches since we’ve been here. There was no excuse for how we met our apartment when we first moved in. We arrived days after our lease went into effect so they had even more time to get everything taken care of and yet didn’t. On top of all that, the outside of our unit wasn’t all that great either. The area clearly hadn’t had a proper deep clean, repaint, and recarpeting in a while (they’ve since repainted and recarpeted). They’ve JUST NOW added additional security which I now someone in the reviews also complained about a few years ago. Lastly, the windows are super thin - you can hear absolutely everything outside, even people just talking, I can every word from my bedroom. Luckily tho, the noise in the building is fine. I rarely ever...
Read moreWould give this place 0 stars if I could. If you get the chance to read this review before it's deleted good luck.
I lived here for two years. Here are a just a FEW of the issues I had. Make of this information what you will.
There's a package room which is definitely a luxury however, beware. It's controlled with a touch screen, half the time it's broken and you can't get in to get your packages. If you can get in make sure your packages are there. A lot of theft occurs in the building. There was such a bad RAT problem in the parking garages, while I was away for a few weeks my car was almost TOTALED and I had to file a claim against the company. The most important part. In a very busy part of downtown. Last May there was a shooting right on Bixel and 3 shot victims ended up in the lobby of the building bleeding out.
To top it off it's been months and still have yet to receive my security deposit that they took almost all of when I left my apartment spotless.
Hopefully you get to read this before you move in! Not to mention if this comment continues to be deleted I will just continue to repost.
Since I don't know how else to get in contact with you, again 3 and a half months later I have yet to receive my deposit back after addresses have been applied from the beginning. Circling back to the rodent issue, this was never resolved, a claim was made and the company that apparently owns the parking garages has decided to just stop responding. I don't know why I'm still dealing with issues from this apartment complex 4 months...
