Swell Maui Surf Lessons — Local services in Maui

I would highly recommend Swell Maui for surfing lessons. From booking to the actual lesson things couldn’t have been better. I had questions prior to booking and they were answered within the hour. After I booked, I got such a detailed email about location and what to expect (even a picture of the truck so I know what to look for), once I booked I needed to switch times- easy breezy no problem, and the morning of the lesson I got a confirmation with suggested places to eat since the options near the beach are few. For the actual experience, my kids ages 8 and 9 had a blast! They kept talking about surfing all day after the lesson and are now convinced that they can take on any Maui wave. This is 100% due to the very thorough and professional instruction from Enzo. He broke down each step into digestible pieces which allowed my kids to feel safe and confident in the water. As a result from excellent instruction, both of my kids were able to get up on the board and had an amazing surfing experience. I also want to mention the attention to detail, Enzo even brought water shoes for my kids just in case we forgot them and water to rinse off before getting into the car. The surf instructor, Enzo, was great. After my experience learning how to surf with him, I was glad I booked directly with a local surf instructor rather then with any of the big companies that had so many people crowded into their program and onto a single wave. Enzo provided personalized, one-on-one instruction that was tailored to my specific needs and abilities. He was attentive to instructional detail and provided a thorough overview of how to safely approach surfing. The best part of the instruction was his respect for the beach and the wildlife; a monk seal hauled out of the water onto the beach that Enzo picked. When tourists got too close, Enzo quickly spoke up and educated them about how they could demonstrate respect, and be good tourists, by staying back. He provided great local insight about where to eat and places to have fun, off-the-path experiences. As a solo-traveler, I really appreciated the information he shared and it made my trip even more memorable. He added in a go-pro camera and immediately emailed over a bunch of amazing pictures of me up on the board, surfing amazing waves. My wife and I looked around at a few different spots when searching for our first surf lesson and we are so incredibly happy that we chose Swell Maui Surf Lessons! Our instructor Enzo was great at communicating leading up to the lessons with detailed instructions of where to meet. The surf spot we met up at was perfect for first time lessons as it was not super busy and we had plenty of space to ourselves to learn. After some brief instructions onshore regarding how to pop up and general paddle techniques we hit the water soon after. Enzo made it so easy for our first time by spotting the best waves for us to attempt to surf and would tell us exactly when to start paddling and when to pop up on the wave. We were both able to get up and surf waves within 2 attempts which was an amazing feeling to be surfing so soon and definitely not something that we would've been able to do without the assistance. The other huge plus for us was the included photo package that was sent to us later in the afternoon on the same day of our lesson which returned some great pictures that we will fondly look back on for years to come!
