As Iâm getting ready to move out and reflect on my two years here, thereâs a lot to talk about. Both good and bad. Itâs people like Kayla, Joseph, Bri, John, and Jamar that make me look back on my time here fondly. Theyâre excellent employees and people, and absolutely deserve recognition. Iâm sad that most of them werenât here when I first moved in; the experience wouldâve been a lot different.
See below for full (less glamorous) details from my time here that Iâve unfortunately felt necessary to document. I would say a good chunk of these (mostly in regard to the garage and security) are still a problem two years later.

If youâre short on time: DO NOT LIVE HERE if you value a quality of life, safety of your property, and basic upkeep/hygiene of your common areas.
Our problems with The Gossett began from the moment my girlfriend and I arrived in Nov. of 2021 at the start of our lease. During our drive from many states away, we called 3 hours before our arrival and spoke to someone named Lauren. We explained that we were coming off of a 10.5 hour drive, and asked if she would double check the readiness of the apartment and check-in paperwork. The response was âuhâŚ.yeah you guys should be good.â
Spoiler alert: things were not good at all.
Upon arrival, it took almost an hour for the paperwork to be prepared, which pulled us away from unloading. When we finally entered the apartment, we discovered it was not as advertised: Lauren previously mentioned this highway-facing unit was a third floor apartment; it was not. It was right at street level, which is not what we agreed to. I might add that there was a group of homeless people right across the street that loved to regularly yell during the workday. We said goodbye to using the âthird floor balconyâ that Lauren told us all about, and prepared to have an entrance to the apartment that faced one of the busiest streets in the area.
As if this wasnât enough of a shock, there was also a lovely pile of human feces in the bathroom toilet when we arrived. I canât make this up. A great look for a âluxury apartment complexâ. We knew we were in for a ride at this point.
As we reeled from our move-in experience and tried to stay positive, about a month later, we had another unexpected event. The security gate that enclosed the parking garage was left open for about a week and a half. The apartment management will deny that it was that long, but if you ask any of the residents, they would all confirm this. It was then that the thefts and break-ins began.
In December of 2021, there was an attempted theft on one of our vehicles that left it totaled. Due to the lack of security cameras in the Gossett garage, the police were unable to assist. When I went to the management office, understandably distraught, I was met with a shrug and asked to work with the police. I was shocked and furious. The Gossetts response to this event (and other break-ins to residents vehicles) was to put signs on the gates that, for a lack of better words, said âwe are not responsible for what happens in this garageâ.
These types of incidents did not subside throughout our time at the Gossett. You would think this building was a metro police station with how often cops were here during winter of â22. Squad cars would show up at least once a week, and talk to some very sad looking residents. I could not believe people were paying this much to be living somewhere that was no safer than a bus station. We understand that this is a city, but the lack of making it a priority really took us aback.
In addition to the security concerns in the garage, many of the doors surrounding the building (that were supposed to be opened with a key-fob) would randomly unlock. Yes. Completely unlock. At one point, one of our friends that lived across the hall had a homeless person hanging out outside their apartment door until they were finally removed. Unbelievable.
In summary, weâve dealt with college management companies that did a better job than the Gossett. Do...
Read moreDO NOT MOVE HERE. Nothing works in this building and nothing gets fixed no matter how many times you complain to Management via email or in person. I have lived here for 8 months and I cannot wait to move out. I give it one star because I actually like my apartment, but its not worth it when Management doesn't know how to run the building. Problem #1: If you have a nice car or any car, prepare for it to get damaged. The garage gate opens left to right and it malfunctions all of the time. When it malfunctions, management will keep it permanently opened for weeks at a time. The building is right off the highway so people who do not live here will come into the garage and vandalize cars. People will go to their car in the morning to go to work and find their window shattered. Someone stripped a motorcycle of all its parts. I have experienced the gate close on my car while driving into the garage TWICE! Its very scary when you see a metal iron gate coming at you and you're stuck in your car. I was very upset and spoke to the the Manager, Tish. She said there's nothing they can do, the gate works fine and no one has ever complained about this before. It was all LIES!!! I started to see cars in the garage that had the same marks and dents as mine so I asked around and found at least 7 people that had that happen to them and they know others as well and have complained to Management and they told them the same thing. I had to file a claim with my insurance and pay my deductible and be out of a car for 8 weeks. Now my heart jumps every time I go in and out of the garage gates. Problem #2: The sensor pads on all of the doors to get inside the building stop working all of the time and they won't get fixed for weeks or months even after reporting it to Management so the doors will either remain permanently locked or permanently unlocked. This means people who do not live here can walk in at any moment and I fear for my safety because there have been reported break ins in other buildings in the area. It also means that people who do live here have to jump through hoops to find a door that works and allows them entry into the building. Problem #3: The package room is in the garage and there is a window that faces the street so anyone driving by can see there are packages in the room. You need your key to enter but somehow during the week of Christmas, someone broke into the room and stole all of the packages (100s of them). The building only notified us by placing a letter in our door instead of sending a mass email like they usually do for announcements, so anyone who was away for the holidays did not know about it. I had to call the merchants and explain the situation, luckily I was able to get my packages replaced, but others were not so lucky. Management decided to no longer use the package room and instead signed up with a third party delivery service so we now have to get our packages delivered to this third party warehouse and schedule time for them to deliver our package. So Amazon 2-day delivery is now 3-4 day delivery. Overnight shipping is now 1-2 day shipping. AND we have to pay $20 a month for it on our rent bill. Problem #4: On top of all of these issues, they have the nerve to increase our lease renewals by...
Read moreI'm not typically one to write a bad review. However, after a year of living in this building, I don't want to see people make the same mistakes for numerous reasons.
To start, the community living situation is not the best. Paper thin, white walls kept us up when we are trying to sleep. Screaming people from above us, in the halls, and around the pool area did not contribute to a comfortable sleeping environment, but rather made you feel like you were locked up in some institution surrounded by raging college students.
Next, the customer service of the community representatives lacked a lot to be desired. Aside from their lack of knowledge and helpfulness, they were cold and filled with false promises. This started from the second we moved in. We were told the Gossett would have certain amenities and services that would help it stand out among the other local buildings in the area. However, when we moved in, we did not have 24/7 uber service free for a year, and other such high promises. Now maybe that is on us for believing them, but when you are moving 800 miles from home, you could use all the comfort and help in the beginning.
As I mentioned, the staff was not helpful in the least bit. They constantly lost packages due to their unorganized system of storing them and the fobs to get in constantly broke, allowing no one access to the building. When you tried to get them replaced, they would just say "you need to get closer" or some other dumb excuse and write off the fact they were cheap pieces of plastic. I'll leave out the time all the fobs stopped working and everyone was locked out of the garage, in the stairwells (because you need the fobs for that too might I add), and to the building as a whole.
Just of note, there is a lack of guest parking for that location of town and in several instances I could not have people over due to the high influx of other guests.
Just of another note, the place wasn't always kept clean from dead birds in the garage to dog pee in the hallways.
Unfortunately, we brought these concerns to the office and the staff several dozen times, but they really didnât seem to care. I mean we spent a lot of time trying to talk to them when we had to had to hunt down packages or get our fob exchanged for the 5th time in 2 months...
Finally, when it came time to leave we were expecting a full refund on our deposit. My roommate and I live fairly simple lives and didn't do anything in the apartment so it was in grade A shape when we left. After the walk through was completed and they stated we would get the full deposit back, they sent an email with the final statement. The statement docked us about half of our deposit for handing in the keys on August 1st, which we were told to do by the staff in a previous email. Guess they had to find some way to make money considering they can't get people to resign their leases and are losing money left and right...
Overall, I would not recommend living here unless you like reliving the college days in an over-glorified, dirty,...
