Blo Blow Dry Bar — Local services in New York

I did two hair trials here for my wedding, as well as a makeup trial, and booked hair and makeup appointments for myself and my bridesmaids in March for my wedding in August. TEN DAYS before my wedding, they called me and said the second makeup artist they hired had canceled and they would not be able to get all of us finished in time. They did not do anything to remedy this situation, and I had to scramble to find another makeup artist to do makeup for myself and my maid of honor.

THE MORNING OF MY WEDDING at 8 AM, they called me and said their makeup artist had called off, and they would only be doing hair for all of my bridesmaids. This was totally unacceptable. I had these appointments booked SIX MONTHS in advance and they caused me so much stress on the morning of my wedding. I've come here several times for blowouts, and they always do a great job. I felt the need to leave a review after my last visit as my extensions were damaged. Thus far, it had never been an issue. This last visit it was clear the girl wasn't experienced working with them. To be clear, she did do a good job overall (was very nice, ensured I was happy etc) and I don't blame the stylist. I feel it's the salons fault for assigning a stylist who clearly didn't have experience working with my hair type (they know specifics about your hair when you book). They charge extra if you have extensions (which is fine) but they should assign a stylist that knows how to work with them (or train them.) I'd say be careful coming here if you have bonded extensions (maybe remind them beforehand) Outside of that, they're a great spot...

I wanted to try the lovely new location on Lexington so I booked a blowout with a frizz treatment. At first, the stylist was helpful and agreeable although she did mention a previous unhappy client (must have been the woman that stormed out the door). I was a little concerned because it seemed the stylist was unfamiliar with the process for the Wow Dreamcoat treatment I had as an additional service, but it seemed to go ok. However, a miscommunication about curling iron size, beachy waves or glamorous curls turned very tense. By the end of my overly long appointment I was uncomfortable and fairly unhappy. However, when I left and checked out when asked for a tip amount, I gave 20% because honestly the stylist intimidated me. I really hated this experience and will not go back.
