I’ve lived in New York for over 20 years, and while the city is constantly changing, there’s something undeniably special about the corner of 73rd & Lexington right now: Marlow East! Through the picture-glass windows of this newly opened gem, you catch glimpses of the street that feel frozen in time—echoes of Old New York. And then, you’re met with something entirely modern: a beautifully designed, two-story space serving up a thoughtful, elevated take on Southern classics with a modern twist.
From the moment we walked in, the space felt fully formed—like a neighborhood staple that’s been there for years. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, making us feel more like regulars than first-time guests. Their genuine excitement and attentiveness made the experience even more memorable.
We started with some fantastic cocktails, each one balanced and creative. Then came the starters, and this is where things really took off. The Caesar salad, deviled eggs, pimento cheese croquettes (I will absolutely dream of those tonight), and beef tartare all offered a fresh, elevated twist on classics—familiar, yet excitingly different that you can only find at Marlow East.
For entrees, we shared the pork chop, which was paired with morels and asparagus in a way that felt indulgent yet refined—honestly, what dreams are made of. The crab agnolotti was another standout: a surprising but perfect pairing with the pork chop (yes, we shared everything!) that was light, rich, and full of flavor.
Dessert was a showstopper: a deconstructed passion fruit tart that was as beautiful as it was delicious. I’m already plotting a return visit for lunch (yes they are open for lunch too!), just so I can enjoy that dessert again—with a glass of bubbles and then most likely stay for all of the other things I mentioned and more!
This place is something special. The food is artful yet grounded, the ambiance strikes a perfect balance of timeless and new, and the hospitality is truly next-level. I can’t wait to return. The corner of 73rd and Lex: something truly special and we have Marlow East to thank...
Read moreI'm a deeply layered human being. I love the run down mom and pop no frills restaurant ran with pure soul & grit, but every now and then, I love a white table clothed beautifully curated environment that charges $30 for a burger with no fries and makes me feel like I'm James Bond. Can't a guy enjoy both?
I needed a day off of my beloved rotisserie chicken and my lady just moved to the Upper East Side. Her Mom was in town helping her move, so we all headed to the newly opened Marlow East to celebrate.
We walked into an environment that made me question if I was underdressed in a brown long sleeved Theory polo and jet black Zara slacks, before we were seated at one of the high top tables.
We ordered the Tuna Crudo ($25), Lobster with green curry ($32), Halibut ($48), and the Burger ($32). I also got a Vesper because, again, I was feeling like a Casino Royale James Bond.
This Crudo... man. I don't even know where to start. Thick cuts of quality tuna in a light bed of black vinegar, it just changed me. I'd drink this black vinegar. I was savoring every bite, likely the best crudo I've had in my life.
I didn't think I was even going to like the Lobster with green curry, avocado, and mango because who puts those ingredients together? What even is that? But it was SPIRITUAL. What an innovation. I must take a moment to shoutout Braxton Decker, the Executive Chef here, because what an innovation. This damn near had me slow clapping.
The Burger and Halibut were phenomenal as well, but those appetizers truly blew us away.
When the bill slowly approached the table, my Chase Sapphire Preferred Card was covering his eyes awaiting the heavy smack in the face, but my gfs Mom ended up covering the whole thing. I even made 2 real attempts to pay because it's the right thing to do, but she ended up hitting me with a firm "ABSOLUTELY NOT." We live to fight another day.

Read moreYOU’D BETTER READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE GOING TO MARLOW EAST: As a devoted enthusiast of fine dining, it is rare to encounter an experience as well-balanced in technique, product, and culinary insight as the one I had at Marlow East. This restaurant reimagines modern American cuisine with reverence for its roots and flawless execution.
I began with a Chilled Seafood Platter that spoke of freshness and precision—ceviche with a beautifully calibrated acidity and texture, and oysters paired with a champagne mignonette that enhanced their briny elegance without overwhelming it. The Caesar Salad was far from ordinary, elevated by cream cheese croutons that brought unexpected richness and finesse.
One of the most exquisite bites of the evening was the Beef Tartare served on toasted brioche—delicately seasoned, impeccably balanced, and layered with flavor. A true standout in both texture and presentation.
The highlight of the evening was a Filet Mignon, seared to perfection, topped with garlic herb butter and accompanied by a bold and aromatic peppercorn sauce. The dish found its perfect match in a glass of Chardonnay Ron Rubin Russian River Valley 2023, whose structure and minerality provided a graceful counterpoint to the savory depth of the entrée.
My sincere thanks to Chef Braxton Decker for a masterfully orchestrated menu and to the front-of-house team for their attentive, polished, and genuinely warm service. The menu at Marlow East calls for a return—not just for its variety, but for the promise of a culinary identity that celebrates the familiar with exceptional artistry.
A truly memorable experience. I look forward to returning....
