I started coming to CrossFit718 in September 2018 and I’ve never been happier. Like all new-comers, I was initially very intimidated walking into the box (that’s what the gym is referred to as in CrossFit). I was approached by one of the coaches, MJ, who gave me a pretty decent rundown of how things work and invited me to take a morning conditioning class the following week. The class I took was run by Coach Tammy, one of the owners of the location and it was awesome. I was sold immediately after that and started my Basics classes with Coach Hal. Since then, I’ve taken classes with Coach Chris, Anne, and Lea. I haven’t been able to take Coach Iz (the other owner of the box) or Marco’s classes due to my work schedule, but it is a goal of mine soon. Everyone has been great with their own style of coaching thus far. If you’re form is off, they help to correct you and teach you tricks so you don’t injure yourself and help your recover post workout (VERY IMPORTANT in my eyes). The workouts are never boring and consistently challenging. I say this with a background of teaching/taking kickboxing classes and even going through at least 1.5 years of personal training. Yes, I reached goals back then but it quickly became stale and difficult to stay motivated. The difference in workouts everyday, the community feeling in the box (among coaches and members—people actually hang out outside the gym, text each other, communicate on social media, etc—never been to a gym like this in my life), and the equipment availability are all a huge plus. It’s not like Planet Fitness where you have to wait 3 years to get a set in. The schedule is also very lenient which works for me as I need 6/7 am classes to head straight to work (convenient because I work 3 blocks away). What more can I say? If you’re interested, take a trial class because it’s worth it. Yes CrossFit in general is expensive—this is pretty universal no matter what box you go to. If you are committed to your health this is a worthy investment. I’m so happy to be a part of the...
Read moreI've been coming for about 4 months and the changes I've seen personally in that time are too many to right here. I was heavy (~240lbs) and unmotivated because going to NYSC or any of the others offered no motivation, no incentive for me to workout and try.
I made the decision to start going to CF and chose 718, mainly because of the owners. Tammy and Israel take the time to learn everyone's name quickly, show up each day more energy then the previous day and push you (in the best way possible) to do things you didn't think were possible for yourself. It's 4 months later and I'm down 30lbs, eager to find out what the next day's work out is going to be and excited to go each day.
Tammy and Iz have done an amazing job creating an atmosphere that's almost family like. You're always meeting someone new, the people you're working out with are pushing you and motivating you by actions (doing a WOD faster then you) or through words (cheering you on, shouting encouragement) while you're working.
If you live in the neighborhood and are looking for something different then the monotony of treadmills, elipticals and the guys in the weight room grunting unnecessarily then spend the extra few dollars and go to CF718. Show up M/T/W/F at 6 or 7am and have Jess yell HELLO (insert day here) and baffle you with her insane level of perkiness that early on a given morning.
Now you can make a New Year's resolution you can actually keep. Don't you deserve that...
