F.W. Webb Company - Manhattan — Local services in New York

I recently, rather embarrassingly, broke a friend's toilet seat when I was housesitting - and I went frantically in search of a replacement before they returned home. Now, I am not the handy type - I am intimidated just walking into home depot, which is where I started. Their employees couldn't be bothered to even feign assistance, but a fellow customer suggested I try F. W. WEBB just a block away - so I did. Waiting inside, I obviously was out of place. I appeared to be the only person there that was not a professional contractor, plumber, electrician, or the such. But when I got to the counter I received some of the best customer service I've received anywhere. Once the employee was able to figure out what I was looking for and that they didn't stock what I needed, he proceeded to pull out a pad and wrote down the names and locations of 3 other places in the city that might be able to help me out. His leads led me to what I needed in the end, and I don't think I would have ever stumbled upon those places in my own. Good selection, but very pricey. For some very common parts, I find online prices to be a third of the cost. The fellows at the counter can be very helpful, but certain ones come across as arrogant and rude, wielding the power to let you wait until their majesty deems it fit to speak to the peasant folk. Beware! Extremely rude people at this place. In addition to the awful customer service, all parts are in average 200% more expensive than other plumbing supplier stores. Just for you to have an idea, I've got a quote for 1 drain set for a bathroom sink for about $ 127. An outrageous high price!!! I ended up buying 4 drain sets (for 4 sinks) at a different Plumbing supplier store for less...
