One of the WORST haircuts I have ever had, followed by what seemed to be solid customer service, ending in a decent haircut but not at all what I asked for. I will explain. Please let photos A, B, C, and D speak for themselves.
I had grown my hair out through the Pandemic for over a year. My hair was very long and full of potential (Photo A). My long-time barber was out of business at the time due to Covid, and I was very picky with who I would choose to cut my hair. I had heard good things from a friend about Fellow Barber and actually had some good luck with them a few years back in Los Angeles. So I went into the shop in FiDi for a consultation. I brought a photo of myself from a few months earlier that I wanted the barber to use as a reference for my new haircut (Photo B). Given the consultation, I was paired up with Alex H., who assured me I was in good hands. I very much was NOT in good hands (Photo C). I looked ridiculous. I was in shock. The process felt off, but I thought, given his confidence with the consultation, this must be part of his creative ability. Unfortunately, it wasn't. I tipped Alex and ran out of the barbershop.
Later that day, I called Fellow Barber to discuss how disappointed I was in the haircut and spoke directly with Sean, the founder. He sincerely apologized and even mentioned to me that he started Fellow Barber due to a bad haircut. He offered to refund me for the first cut and set me up with a Senior Barber named Rob - free of charge. At the moment - things were looking up.
I met with Rob a day or so later, and he was in disbelief that I received the cut I was given. We talked through what I had initially requested in the consultation and wanted the length to be long enough on top so that I could tie it up. He assured me that not only could he salvage this disaster of a cut, but he would also be able to bring me very close to my initial request. When we finished up with the cut, I asked Rob if he had a hair tie so I could tie my hair up, and he went white as a ghost. Apparently, in the 30 minutes, I was in the chair, he forgot my request to keep it long enough to tie and took too much off to be able to do so (Photo D). Although the cut was free and a decently generic men's haircut, it wasnāt at all what I asked for - I would have paid a good amount of money to get what I actually wanted.
I gave Fellow Barber two stars, given that the owner tried to make right by not charging me for either haircut. It still cost me money because I chose to tip both times, but the actual cost was the disappointment.
On two occasions, I was given false assurance that my very attainable requests would be met. At the end of the day, it is hair that will grow back, but I am incredibly disappointed in the two experiences. If you want a long haircut, this is NOT the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreYo! Fellow Barber in New York is the real deal, folks. If you're looking for a barber who can hook you up with a fresh cut, this is the place to be. The barbers there are seriously talented, and they know their stuff when it comes to giving you a clean and stylish look. I've been going to Fellow Barber for a while now, and I've never left disappointed.
One of the things I love about this barbershop is the atmosphere. It's got that classic, old-school barbershop vibe that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. They've got all the traditional barber tools and gear, and the decor is on point. It's just a really cool and chill place to hang out.
The barbers themselves are awesome too. They're always super friendly and down to earth, and they're great at making conversation. It's always a pleasure to catch up with them, and I always leave feeling like I've had a good chat. They're just all-around good dudes, and they make the whole barbershop experience that much better.
Overall, I highly recommend Fellow Barber in New York. If you're looking for a barber who can give you a fresh cut and make you feel right at home, this is the place to be. The barbers are talented, the atmosphere is dope, and the conversation is always on point. So, what are you waiting for? Book your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThat is the first review I post about the Worst haircut in all NYC barbershops I have been to. I walked in for the first time because of the nice reviews and I wanted to explore this nice barbershop. The dude who was assigned to do my haircut is I assume he is new to the industry, he did not even know what he was doing. I asked for a specific haircut Which I showed him a full set of pictures. I was noticing he was just improvising with a new haircut so I was patient just to see where he was going. He was not even close to what I wanted, he kept on trimming and trimming and this is his final work. Btw, What is this horizontal line of hair behind my ear doing? I am going back to my barber in Tribeca. Never again to this place! Just Horrible!!! UPDATE after the owner reply: I waited all day after their reply for someone to contact me but no one did! The guy who I assumed is new to the industry was under NO supervision whatsoever and I didnāt know he was new. I paid full price not a discounted price. Plus, I would never give my hair/head to anyone who is learning/training even if itās for free. Lastly, I went back to my barber in Tribeca and he did an awesome job in correcting this huge mistake done on my hair. PS: If you want to train your staff on customers heads, please take their...
