On behalf of a friend. The E,R, for psych is disgraceful, human waste on the floor. The unit upstairs is sanitary. The activities they offer are few and not well announced so you can miss a group you want. Patients are watched every single second, even in the visitors room where you want privacy. Watchdogs. It seems to me that no one is encouraging the ones who need it to try getting out of bed a bit and socializing. Many things are not allowed to be given to patients- pens, soap superior to hospital soap, dental floss, shoes with laces,no tiny rubber bands or scrunchies to hold hair, no hardcover books (How can you harm yourself with those?), no CDs (including player), no MP3s, no cell phone. Definitely no balloons. If you want to bring a gift, it's best to use a paper bag which they will reject because they prefer their own paper bags. Patients are not given a choice of food for their meals. Not enough drinks are made available. Not enough food for evening snacks is made available. Visitors may not walk around the unit. (What are they trying to hide?) I personally saw 2 watchdogs verbally and emotionally abuse a middle age woman with a physical handicap, they denied her a seat while they made her stay in the waiting room because their visitors room wasn't ready on time. The watchdog at the visitors' room can choose to close up early if the room is empty except for one visitor hoping her niece will still come back after an anxiety attack. I haven't left from any visits feeling that my friend was getting the best care. I have now seen 3 psych units in different hospitals. This is the only one I...
Read moreCame evening/ morning 5/6/25. The AM team- DR. Tolulope Olupona and the young white guy working under her was amazing. The only staff in the entire building to treat me with kindness, humility, grace, empathy and compassion.
The rest of them- what a hell hole. I went in involuntarily after a major psychiatric episode- by the time I was arrived at the hospital I was sitting calmly, neutralised and ready for the next steps. Maybe it was my privilege and unexposure to the horrors of what mental health treatments or Er Psych care looks like in a transitional neighbourhood- or under Trumps America. But if you want to be treated like a person- avoid the 911 call. Or drive up to the subarbs or Long Island or NYPRS OR NYU. Treated like a dog. After asking basic questions about my intake I was met with hospitals and told I was being uncooperative. Which then 6 people held me down and forcibly injected me with something I’m still feeling the lasting affe ts of 3 days later. I told them I have a history of having bad reactions to medications (nor if I was being uncooperative was debatable) regardless now my heart is beating out of my chest- the meds had an adverse reacting, and I haven’t been able to sit still for 3 days. I felt like I was watching a 1950’s horror film. To hell with all except the two a mentioned. And the nice female security guard that did all that was within her control you know...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusting behavior. I am shocked that this is a hospital. They take their absolute time while horsing around. I have had way better experience with NYU Langone and Mount Sinai, I am so upset they made me walk home, suggested me to walk home in my condition in this heat. Waited for 4 hours for nothing but advice. Stay the hell away from this place, make this the LAST resort. I stormed out and will NEVER STEP foot in this place again. The negative reviews are true. Don't believe me? Head there yourself. Oh and I witnessed they gave the wrong blood order to another patient while watching a patient needing an EKG for almost 2 hours. This is a joke. They also make you repeat yourself to the different medical staff as if they don't have the notes down. Burn...
