I met a saxophonist, Mike, playing music on the street, and he told me to go to the horn shop down the street on 46th Ave. He said to introduce myself to Jon and to say that Mike sent him. I walked down to 46th Street and visited his shop and was very happy to see all the different kinds of saxophones and other instruments. Jon was working on some instruments, and there were some other people trying out saxophones and asking common questions. I tried out three saxophones. The three I tried were a Selmer Series action II, a Yamaha professional model, as well as a really neat older Conn saxophone that had a lot of innovative and intuitive key works. They have many saxophones and a variety of brands. The Jon Baltimore Music Co. INC offers a lot of services for a variety of instruments and also offers many horns, saxophones, brass, and other instruments. He has a very cool lathe with his workshop, and it is right in the middle of his store, which is very neat me. He was glad and happy to answer any and all questions I had. In the entrance, there were many pictures, letters, autographs, and other memorabilia that gave great honor and goodness, from small to great players. There are also so long many other unique and eclectic instruments all around the store.

This place didn’t just sell us instruments. It rewired how my son sees music. It turned curiosity into passion, and notes into purpose. Every visit feels like a reunion—they greet us by name, remember the small things, the big things, the in-between things. That kind of heart? Rare.
The staff here aren’t just selling instruments—they’re planting seeds. They’ve introduced my kids to sounds they didn’t know existed, taught them how to care for their gear like it’s an extension of their soul, and when something broke? They stepped in like trusted friends and made it right.
Our trombone and baritone came from Jon Baltimore, and I swear they have stories in their brass—stories that will last.
This shop isn’t just a music store. It’s a temple of sound, a hidden Mecca for beginners and seasoned players alike. A place where craftsmanship still matters and customer service feels like something out of a time when things were made to last—and so were relationships.

Read moreWhat a wonderful music shop! My son brought me here saying that he has been buying and repairing his trumpets, cornets and trombones at John Baltimore Music since he first came to New York City 18 years ago. He was greeting with a big hug from Mr. Baltimore and his staff then showed us some of the more notable horns in their enormous collection. They let us choose a half dozen different trumpets, from a 1924 Conn, to a modern Bach Stradivarious 37 to play in their sound-proof testing room. This kind of curated introduction to a number of instruments and the opportunity to play and compare them shows the enormous advantage that a good old fashioned music shop has over the blind, impersonal buying that occurs on the internet. If you want to rent, repair or buy a brass or woodwind instrument, this is the place to make a...
