Went with a friend on Christmas . Meal was an apple, a salad and a chicken sandwich but I don't eat birds so I just had a salad and apple . Very nice that they gave an unexpected gift of scarf, hat and gloves to everyone - as I had not been expecting that . We had to line up before 12 noon and wait in line like 20 minutes to get in . Before you go downstairs to eat they scan you with one of those airport things to make sure you don't have a weapon . They asked me to open my purse but didn't go through it - again I think it's just to make sure you don't have a weapon . They took my temperature and had me sign my name and birthdate on a sign-in sheet but I did not have to show ID . I'm told the food here is better than other shelter type places but I wouldn't know. I came with my friend who lives nearby and comes here because the senior centers are closed during Covid-19 and he is sometimes broke and needs to eat at these spots .

I stay at my friends apartment at night in Manhattan, but I needed a shower today around 8:00 pm so I went here and to be honest, I waited about an hour, took my shower & then left.. I didn’t stay for Food or Sleep but I’m sure if I did need to stay for the food or sleep then it would have been very resourceful. If you’re in a emergency situation I’d suggest this place to shower & stay if you need a place to stay & then go about your business. In NYC, all you need is a stable place to sleep at night, a shower, & some food to survive while Saving & Stacking up the money you’re receiving. I’m a musician & I make money in my sleep but I chose to move out of my mothers house in April 2023 due to the negative energy I feel when I’m there. I felt like writing this review because seeing the people in this place helped me realize that there people are in this world in much worse & uncomfortable situations than I am so I’m more thankful for what I have and more thankful for my living situation. I’ve never done this before so it was an experience & I felt like I needed the experience anyway. I will most likely never visit this place again but I do suggest it to those in need of a shower & make sure you’re thinking of legal ways to get money and better your life while waiting...

With the challenges facing the middle class in the current economy I found myself a victim of the plague of homelessness. upon researching my options to sleeping on the streets, subways or in the shelter system.... I was fortunate enough to find Mainchance Drop In Center. Mainchance offers a brighter alternative than the shelter system...the staff are dedicated to assisting you in achieving permanent housing....There approach is hands on,open and honest ...as a client you are treated as an adult with respect... but not babied and pampered. They provide guidance , informative groups, food and a well managed respite bed program...My experience with them has been a rewarding journey out of the darkness of homelessness and into the light..of permanent housing..and they have been their with me all the way....without a doubt the finest group of case managers, administrative, and operations staff anyone could ever hope for...thier hearts are pure..and they truly care about your success..and will do everything as their part to help you move forward...all they ask is that you comply...

What I witnessed broke my heart. A man clearly struggling with alcoholism was dragged out of his chair and onto the floor by security…while the same group that had been drinking heavily with him enabling him was allowed to stay behind as they laughed. No one deserves to be treated that way, no matter their race, background, or situation. Homelessness can happen to anyone, for any number of reasons. I wish I had spoken up more in that moment, even if it meant being put out in the cold with him. But people like me often go unheard until it’s too late. Maybe warning others is the only real way to make a difference. I do want to say this, though because I feel it important to be fair…the guard involved has always struck me as one of the more respectful and fair ones. I don’t know what led to things escalating like that. To be fair I have seen other guards attacked and even threatened with violence on a regular basis. But most importantly admitted that a situation could have been handled differently concerning an Issue with me personally.

I truly hope that...
