I am a patient at MSK (not for breast cancer) and started getting my mammogram screening here two years ago. The process could not be more difficult. First you have to email or fax a prescription before you can even make an appointment. Then when I called for an appointment the person said my email did not come in (I had a copy in my sent folder and I had the correct email address) and so I had to forward it again. Then he tells me there is absolutely no appointment available for a mammogram and sonogram for two months. My option is to get a mammogram one day and then come back again for a sonogram. This is the opposite of patient centered and actually discourages people to get their annual mammograms. If I don't make two separate trips (I live in Brooklyn) then I have to wait until mid December, which is 6 weeks past my anniversary date. The person I spoke with blamed it on October being Breast Cancer Awareness month resulting in a spike in appointments. If the much heralded best of the best Evelyn Lauder Breast Center is making people wait over a month for their screening (and past their annual date) there is clearly a serious infrastructure problem. I have never experienced such a long delay getting my annual mammogram at previous places. MSK touts itself as an elite best of the best but is actually woefully inaccessible for a very basic and critical preventative health procedure. I feel completely discouraged from getting a mammogram at this point. Now I have to chase down my MSK records (of course nobody answered when I called) to get them sent to another place to do my mammogram since I canāt get an appointment with MSK in a reasonable timeframe - more obstacles and hurdles to get a basic and crucial screening. If I could give 0...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFinancially taking advantage of a cancer patient at a vulnerable time in their life is both immoral and should be illegal.
My two appointments with an oncologist and surgeon turned into a seven hour ordeal due to the inability of Sloan to properly schedule patients (with zero update from anyone on their team as my family and I spent hours waiting for their doctors past our scheduled time).
Their oncologist misdiagnosed me, telling me I have cancer in my lymph nodes when four other doctors told me I do not (and I have a biopsy to prove it), causing severe emotional distress at the beginning of my cancer journey.
Sloan then proceeded to bill my insurance over $3K, sending a $700 bill my way for (drum roll please) reading the test results that were performed (and read) by a different medical team (where I am now being treated), as well as my two 30 minute appointments which were both hours late. I have called and emailed them dozens of times with no response or resolution from their team.
For a hospital that claims to have the number two spot in the US, this is a complete disgrace.
Happily being treated as a human being at a cancer center in Colorado - highly recommend...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is amazing place, yes. Most of doctors and nurses that I met here are sincere and kind. But for the radiology department, waiting time is usually more than one hour, but still called us up a few days before and threatened us that āif you come in 15 min later than āarrival timeā we will have to reschedule the appointment and you donāt want to do that!ā (Their exact words) they have already 30 min early āarrival timeā (and one hour early for my next 2nd biopsy) and Iām always on time. They donāt have to create stressful environment to a cancer patient.
Biopsy is already stressful, and during the time waiting for my name to be called in the lobby, my anxiety built up. If you threaten us to come one hour early, please at least...
