The Landing Family Shelter — Local services in New York

The staff that works at security and building management and who work at the front desk are all great ! Very friendly and professional ... But as for the case manager ive had very undermining disrespectful ... Judgemental and just plan rude ... He made me feel ashamed that there was mice as if it was my fault whrn the entire building is infested ... He made a big deal over me washing my clothing in the bathtubs and hanging it to dry ... Mind u this is a family shelter its my husband myself and my 18 month old son all sharing one room and bathroom ( its a hotel room). We have zero storage for our clothing besides the small closet no dressers or small drawers there for we keep our clothes folded in suitcases or on top the desk ... My son can't sleep in the crib becuz the mice go scurrying thru it at night leaving droppings everywhere an exterminator has come twice ... Ive caught about 8 mice all together .. We only have a bunk bed with a single matters neither of us wants to sleep on top so we take down the mattresses and put it together on the floor which is technically n not allowed either but I well. We have been there going on 7 n half months ... Still waiting ...only just met the housing specialist ... There are families who have spent 3 or more years in this place which is just rediculous. Also the elevator has been broken for I believe 2 months or more so I have to lug my son upstairs and a stroller plus w.e groceries act I have all while I'm pregnant .. SMDH .. Any ways thats...

It was definitely an experience I wish I could forget. Between almost robbed by the staff twice, bike vandalized, had the cops called on me because they lied and said I was a danger to my child after I realized they were not trying to help me get an apartment, and I told them we were leaving( we were there 11 months). They were mostly unprofessional, impatient, and will do things purposely to stress the families. They lied about my package coming in, and I just called on a different day with a different person who confirmed its been there. I'm very pleasant by nature and to deal with the number of nasty people who are just there to take when we came in because our situation was very desperate. They helped nothing. I needed therapy from going here. My caseworker was the worst one because he did next to nothing but wanted to call the cops when I had an appointment with the housing specialist but instead wanted to write me up for finding an unused crackpot in my closet, that was gifted from family. Purposely calling me at the same time as my appointment and all. This place just...

I had to stay here for a few months, left recently, and unfortunetely, this place is a DISASTER. This place should be run by 2 people, namely Mr. Chris and Ms. Chandler, and they are driving this place off a cliff. Ms. Chandler comes to work to gossip with her friends and not do any work, I've seen here do it in the office while other social workers were running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to actually get stuff done. Mr. Chris thinks he's the King of the Hill but he's lost perspective a long time ago. There are some employees there tht work hard and put in the effort, but it's just not enough, there's hundreds of people staying there and they all need help. All good employees are leaving, the place is super understaffed, nobody wants to put up with the management anymore. I'm still in touch with 1 or 2 people there and I'm finding out that COVID is spreading like wildfire. It's a sinking ship and somebody needs to...
