After spending about an hour with Google support I was presented with two options to pursue a warranty support claim for a display issue. I could mail it in and face about a 3 week turn around, or I could drive 2 ½ hours from Savannah to a uBreakiFix location for same day service. I chose to use the excuse to make a trip to Charleston.
I arrived at the N. Charleston store and girl at the entrance table looked at my phone for all of about 5 seconds and then said "it wouldn't be covered, it's damaged". When I challenged this as the phone has never sustained a fall, been submerged (despite it's rating to do so), or otherwise been exposed to non normal handling; she pointed to a couple of very small surface scratches, "crazing" is the correct term. I again challenged her as there is zero correlation between the issue and this supposed "damage". She stated there was no way Google would honor the warranty and I would need to shell out $340 to fix it. I walked out.
In my car, I pulled up my support with Google and continued the chat. I explained what I had just been told and was immediately assured that Google accepts "reasonable usage" and what I described (no display issue under direct light) wouldn't be an issue. They then recommended the Mt. Pleasant location.
I drove another 20ish minutes and walked in. The tech there looked at the phone, popped the SIM to check for water intrusion, then verified it was within the warranty. My phone was completely fixed, as Google had promised, in about 2 hours and at no cost. The tech there even stated he looked for a few other "common issues" that have been seen on my model and made sure they weren't going to be a problem for me.
So ..go to N. Charleston to get scammed and lied to, or go to Mt Pleasant and be...
Read moreEdited to post update. Ended up having my husband stop by on his way home from work. It ended up being "done" but they couldn't access the software bc of child locks. No one called us or let us know, however he said it was beyond swamped and someone's goblin triggered the silent alarm... The gal again was very nice but absolutely overwhelmed. The company needs to do better with it's staffing issues. The phone looks good and the problem seems to be fixed.
Not super happy about our current situation. We dropped off the phone on a Friday, estimated repair was scheduled to be finished Saturday. The gal working was super nice and the ONLY reason I gave two stars. She stated that the store is super understaffed and she was the only one who would be working. I offered to bring her coffee the next day bc I'm sure the company doesn't appreciate her or pay her enough to be the only one running the store.
I returned Saturday to find no one there and no note as to when anyone would be back. We received zero communication as to when the phone would be fixed or if/when we could pick up.
Here we are on Tuesday, still no communication from the store and no one answering their lines. And now family link has been removed from the phone for some reason, which is odd bc it has nothing to do with the repair itself, it was a back glass replacement.
We just spent an hour on the phone with asurion trying to figure out how to remedy this situation and while the young lady was nice, nothing was really solved. Supposedly, they are working on the phone? But we still have had zero communication from the ubreakifix store about any progress at all, it's not been updated that it's even been checked in...
Read moreEMPLOYEES WILL USE YOUR PHONE FOR PERSONAL USE. The only reason I used this facility was because the insurance through my phone provider uses them. When I went in I was unimpressed with how dirty the store was, literally had a roach crawl on my arm while waiting not to mention the floor looked like it hadn't been swept in quite a while. Dropped my phone off at 10:30am and was told it would be done at "5ish". I showed up at 6:00pm to pick my phone up and the guy who greeted me told me he would check and then said just a few minutes the other lady was putting it back together. Also know you cannot call the store to chexk on your status. I was told the storm knocked their lines out ans theyre trying to get it back up. We then waited another 45 minutes for them to finish. While sitting there we could overhear them talking and the lady said something about having to check to make sure there was nothing under it so that they didn't bust it up again like last time. (This was not at all mentioned to me when they handed my phone over) After sitting there I was given my phone and the lady just handed it to me and said here all done and then I guess she noticed I was a bit irritated with the wait and apologized for the wait. THE KICKER, I GET HOME AND CHECK MY PHONE AND THE AMAZON APP THAT I HAVE NOT USED IN A WEEK OR MORE WAS OPEN AND THEY WERE SEARCHING COFFEE MAKERS. So who knows what else on my phone they accessed and went through. 100% do not reccomend and I will be contacting whoever I can to make sure they know that their employees are using customer phones for personal use....
