Well, the “Owner” or so he claimed wouldn’t allow my 7 year old son to use the public restroom, eventually telling me that I don’t believe in science since he claimed that the fumes from the plumbing could carry COVID-19. My awesome and patient son had an accident while I was rushing him across the busy street. Hoping for a little sympathy or an apologetic response at the least I was questioned on whether or not I have a degree, which is hilarious coming from this guy. As it happens, I run a pretty successful company and I’m proud of that, but apparently his lack of decency should be reserved for people with degrees and who vote a particular way or may I dare say people who get their “scientific data” from Reddit. My education and work have nothing to do with being a decent person and expecting as a loyal customer at least an apologetic, I’m sorry. The “Owner” then told me I was throwing a fit repeatedly when I asked him some very basic questions as to why his biology degree and his made up facts would make it any better That I had to run my son across Washington Blvd, a very busy street. Truth is, having my education level questioned, being told I’m throwing a fit when I clearly hadn’t raised my voice, and him cowering immediately behind the counter as I moved closer shows what type of person he is, I love my children but without an ardent apology I will never return to a low class establishment like that and frankly, shame on people for empowering that weak individual to work for them. If I employed people like him we would go out of business, but the clear difference is my industry takes high character and talent which is obviously lacking at the Ogden...
Read moreHeeBeeGeeBeez Comics & Games in Ogden, Utah just tried to sell me star wars destiny booster packs at $8/pack. They are only worth $3. I had never set foot in their store before today, and will never, EVER for any reason set foot in there again. A store is free to do what it likes when it comes to supply and demand. They very well may find buyers at those prices (though I'd surely hope not). But here's the thing: there are six gamers under my roof. I'm ashamed to admit how much money we actually invest each month in gaming (between Dice Masters, board games, and other card games). It's one of our favorite ways to use discretionary income because we feel it does a lot to create memories and family time together. To be blunt, any store could obviously survive just fine without me, but they should want to have a customer like me to visit them regularly. I will never go to that store again, nor will I point anyone in their direction. I think the supply shortage of this great game is a real discouragement, but anybody who wants to build a business in any field needs to recognize the need to build a loyal customer base over the need to turn a tidy profit because of shortage. Sorry for the rant, folks.
We'll keep trying with other game stores. I know the easiest way is to just buy online but I love trying to support local game stores whenever possible. If this store had, instead, sold me packs at MSRP, I'd have been crazy grateful and would have gone back soon. Too bad for both of us (the store, and my...
Read moreHEEBEEGEEBEEZ is a comic book store based in downtown Ogden. The space is airy and clean, with warmly-toned hardwood floors and pleasant lighting. I think you'll find that it's easy to get lost in perusing through comic books without actually getting lost. They have a humble, but good selection of graphic novels and mangas outside of their regular comic book library. In the back you'll find shelves of anime, movies that hide many treasures. My favorite part of this store (besides the comics, of course) is their classic toys selection. It's like taking a step back into childhood as you peruse old toys that existed in the 90s and further back. In my experience, the employees are pleasant and not pushy. I was able to pleasantly go about my shopping without anyone hovering over my shoulder, but I also knew the employees were always present should I need assistance. There is also a sense of community here. I'm not a regular comic book reader, but every time I visit, there is always someone who comes in who chats with the staff with a tone of familiarity and comradery. It's honestly a treasure to have such businesses that build a community.
Edit: In regards to why I chose four stars instead of five stars, I would say I'd like to see the store space be better maximized. It's open space is verging on bare in some places. With there being such a familial and community centered feel to the store, I'd love to see seating areas for guests to come, sit back and read some comics while chatting with...
