I graduated from the Electrical Program from SJVC in August 2023 in which the instructors were exceptional in their teachings and hands on experience. I decided to return to the school for the HVAC program at nights (it's the only class they have). I started the program in October. 2023 in which the program was really slow and hardly any hands-on experience. Our instructor got in a car accident, and we had to share the advance class instructor. Mr. Droog had to teach two classes for the last two months. Mr. Droog went above and beyond teaching both classes. The issue I'm having is with the Academic Dean and Mr. DeBerry (In charge of the Electrical and HVAC program). For the first three weeks of December, we weren't told if we were going to get a substitute teacher for our class. I had spoken with the Academic Dean, and she informed me that they were looking for a replacement, but it was going to take time. In addition, I had requested a meeting with Mr. DeBerry and when I went to his office to talk to him. He was being condescending towards me when I requested to talk to him because I assumed we had a meeting. I asked him if they have found a new instructor for our class, which he replied that they had one soon. However, a couple of days later we had found out that they haven't hired a new instructor. This was already over a month, and they hadn't hired a new instructor. As of 1-29-2024, we were informed that our original teacher is coming back to teach us. For the amount of money we pay for the school, we haven't gotten the adequate amount of time to focus on the subjects. It's not Mr. Droog's fault at all, he has been the best instructor i have had at SJVC.
All in all, I've found my experience in the HVAC program very disappointing. We pay a premium for an expedited learning experience which has not been held to the standard they charge. It is clear to me now that the school holds no value for the program and does the bare minimum to create the illusion for the government to continue funding...
Read moreI do not know how this place has as many high reviews as they do. They are horrible at communication, I attended here back in 2020/2021 and did not receive correct information in the slightest. They do not give you a breakdown of how the classes go, what you'll study or for the medical assisting program that you'll be attending a full-time externship at the end of your graduation. I had no idea what my "graduation date" was until the week before I was finished, as well as had no idea I would be needing to attend an externship other than hearing about it from another student who had only discovered this information the day prior and was sharing it with other students. I was working a full-time job while attending school, had to give notice to my work to take the time off for this, and did not have enough time to plan correctly due to the school's lack of any real organization. I won't blame the school for the horrible interactions I had at externships, but I will say that in the medical assistant program, you do NOT receive the proper training for the aggressive field you are about to walk into. A lack of skill practice sets you up for complete failure in anything you'll experience in an actual office. As well as getting ahold of them on any phone line is impossible, it's funny that they hide all of their negative reviews and say that they forward your concerns to the school, but it's been 2 years and I've been unable to receive my transcripts, have never heard from anything about my concerns and pretty much no regard for how they set their students up...
Read moreIf I can put 0 stars I would. This school is a joke. Their administration does not help with nothing and will make you figure it out. Also if you want any important documents they can’t help you because everything is through third party companies. Don’t waste your time at this school. I went for the electrical program, when I finished they told me they lost my paper I signed for the ET card so I had to wait another 4 months for it and when I received it my name was wrong ! I called mr deberry the electrical directory for the school and he told me “respectfully” and sent me the number to the electrical board pretty much telling me to get Lost and figure it out myself. I also needed my transcripts and they couldn’t give me those, they want me to go through third party just to get them. This school is a total joke, if you’re reading this invest your money else where because all they will do is sell you lies. Didn’t help me look for work or anything. Once I graduated I was on my own and no advisor called me to see how I was doing or had any job leads for me. All they care about is how their test scores look and invest your money in how the building looks. As someone who was struggling to find a good trait school, I thought I did but they tell you what you want to hear and not what your need hear, do yourself a favor and find another school because this is not the place to find your career, id probably have better opportunities going to Platt...
