We had an unforgettable time on the motorized boat tour through Horseshoe Bend with Wilderness River Adventures. As two moms traveling with three kids (ages 10, 8, and 7), we were hoping for something fun, safe, and memorable for all of us—and this tour delivered more than we could have imagined.
Our guide, Letia, was absolutely amazing. She is Native to the land and shared rich stories about her people’s history, culture, and deep connection to the river. The way she spoke about the land made the entire experience feel more meaningful. She brought such warmth and authenticity, and her knowledge gave us a much deeper appreciation for everything we were seeing.
The boat ride itself was a blast—smooth, scenic, and full of surprises. We were lucky enough to spot wild horses, a blue heron, big horned sheep, and even a beaver swimming along the riverbank. The kids were so excited with each new sighting, and Letia made sure to point out animals and explain their role in the ecosystem. It felt like we were getting a wildlife safari on the water!
We also stopped to see petroglyphs carved into the canyon walls—such an amazing glimpse into the past—and we even had the chance to go swimming in the Colorado River, which the kids absolutely loved. The water was refreshing, and it gave us a chance to just take in the incredible scenery from a different perspective.
Letia was so kind and engaging, especially with the kids. She made them feel comfortable, answered their questions, and kept them entertained and safe the whole time. Her mix of humor, heart, and cultural knowledge made the entire tour something we’ll never forget.
This was more than just a boat ride—it was an experience filled with natural beauty, wildlife, cultural history, and real connection. If you’re visiting the Page or Glen Canyon area, Wilderness River Adventures is a must, and if you’re lucky enough to have Letia as your guide, you’re in for something...
Read moreMy wife booked this excursion and it was one of the best parts of my trip! I highly recommend it, more so if you wear a large brimmed hat, sandals, wear a bathing suit and lot of water!
Our route started off on a chartered bus to Lees Ferry (about an hour from home base). The guides divided the group up into 16-17 per boat.
Our guide was Jim! The vessels are equipped with with life vests, and 5 gallons of cool water to hydrate! From the start Jim told us about wildlife sightings he had seen on previous trips and throughout the whole journey he went beyond to make sure we didn’t miss the chance of seeing ….a mountain sheep, we did see plenty of wild horses!
He pointed out how the canyon walls have discoloration and explained that 1000feet tall walls, imagine a football field to put in perspective. After viewing horseshoe bend, we made one stop at Petroglyphs Beach, where we were allowed to exit the boat, and use the bathrooms, hang out and jump in the Colorado River for a refresher! He warned us about eating, because crumbs can cause rodents. I was so hot from the sun, I stripped down to my briefs and made myself go in, the water was cold, 45degrees Fahrenheit, but ie felt so much better after.
After 30minutes of exploration, we boarded the vessel for the return trip. Jim pulled a bag out of the water and it was filled with Gatorade Cans. So thoughtful, he wanted us to be hydrated. He also had these water spray bottles filled with cold water, and advised us to spray ourselves with a mist to cool down.
Jim is an amazing tour guide. He answered all my questions and was even able to save a lady’s hat which ended up in the water.
There were blankets on board if people got cold and wet. We were able to move around the vessel, standing up and changing seated positions. The camera views from inside the canyon were out...
Read moreKale, Billy, Scott, and Franko made our four day river trip magical and an adventure we will surely remember for a lifetime.
When we booked this excursion one year ago in August 2023 for September 2024 I was afraid of what this journey would entail of us physically and mentally.
Wilderness River Adventures (WRA) provided thorough packing lists and guides to ensure we could best prepare for our trips. While we were on the river, we were provided with gourmet (hot!) meals, sleeping bags, and cots at superbly scenic campsites. The cheerful and welcoming demeanor of Kale, Billy, Scott, and Franko made our trip even more memorable!
The team was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating to our groups’ needs and lack of experience when it comes to living in the wilderness. The logistics and supplies for 25 people in the wild for 4 days must have been crazy but the team's execution made it look smooth and flawless from the outside! They were truly instrumental in making this experience amazing for all of us.
If you're contemplating going on this trip and you're usually more of an urban dweller — have no fear. WRA and their team will work their hardest to prepare you for a journey of a lifetime!
Our minds were opened and souls renewed; this trip was undoubtedly an experience of a lifetime! There is more to life than the mundane day-to-day living in a big city. I could tell you more about this trip, or you could find out for yourselves!
Thanks again to Kale, Billy, Scott, and Franko - the spirit of the Canyon and your energy will stay with...
