Truly a FIVE star experience from the moment you come in and ongoing! We were visiting Park City and just happened to walk in never expecting such an amazing store and great customer service.

We are from Austin, TX so there's no shortage of custom hat stores, but it was partly the experience that had us buying hats here. We worked with Hannah and all I can say is if you are working with her... you ARE going to buy a hat. She's very good at reading people and picking out what would go best for each individual down to the color and style of the hat.

But mind you, this is not ordinary experience. It's extremely personalized to each individual; not just the fitting for proper size, color that works best but the shaping. I think I've spent less time buying a new car and that's not meant to be negative. Rather just to emphasize the personal attention you receive when you want to check out the hats.

They have so many colors and style variations for you to look at, but regardless, if you already know how you want your hat to look, they can style it. When you pick out the color you want, you are going to be a basic hat with a flat brim and a round crown. So don't be shocked when they bring out the new, unshaped hat. Right in front of you, they will shape it to the exact style you want and it's really an impressive process to watch. One of the most impressive things was changing the size of the brim. We wanted the brim just a little smaller than the stock hat. They will measure it down to an 1/8th of an inch and after they cut it, you would never know the hat didn't come that way originally. Again, the transformation from the stock hat to the one you take with you is an amazing process to watch. And something I haven't ever seen before, they will actually "brand" your hat if you want. Think of branding like a cow get branded; they have these little branding irons and we chose to get our initials branded on the underside of the brim. A very nice personalization and a great way to make sure someone else doesn't accidentally pick up your hat!

They have a wide array of hat bands anything from a very basic but nice hatband that comes with the purchase of the hat, to hand etched solid leather bands with silver buckles for the same price (and sometimes more) as the hat. But when you look at the history of the Burns Western apparel (since 1876), it's clear the quality of the material and craftsmanship. Don't be shocked by the price; again, this is a quality hat that is going to last a lifetime and people will recognize the quality. In the first day after getting the hat, we received so many comments from people passing wanting to know where we got the hat from.

If you came to Park City and weren't prepared to carry something like this back on the plane... not to worry. When we finished our trip, we returned to the store and they will put the hat in a nice protective box and ship to your home address so there no worry about how you are going to carry this on a plane. We are already planning another trip in March to Park City and we won't leave before visiting Burns Cowboy Shop to pick up another hat! Everyone here is very nice and helpful, but ask for Hannah. She is so knowledgeable and fun to work with. But one warning... if Hannah helps you... you ARE going to buy a hat :) she doesn't pressure, but she knows the hats so well, you are going to feel like something is missing if you don't get one of these hats. We couldn't be happier and you don't have to live in Texas or Utah. You can wear this in New York, Chicago or Miami and people are going to recognize a quality of piece...

Burns comes to Big Sky, Montana for PBR and advertises their boots, hats, belts, etc. The summer of 2024, I ordered a custom pair of boots, paid in cash, and over a year later NEVER received them. I called the number on the website, sent messages via instagram, and kept calling until I got someone on the phone to tell me what happened to my order. Somewhere along the line, I got handed off to "Mike". Mike tells me that I would be made another pair of boots, and the order will be expedited. Three months later, no updates, no follow up from mike, no idea what's going on AGAIN, now with my Second pair of boots. I reached back out to mike, (text, and left a voicemail) looking for an update. SHOCKER, silence from mike. I call the number on the website again, and thankfully, someone who FINALLY cares after hearing that it's been over a year, starts to dig for me. I ask to leave a message for production to call me back. Instead, she calls me back less than an hour later, telling me she found my boots, that have been ready, and just sitting there. Again, I never received any information that they were even done. Mike, who had asked for my shipping address for when this pair was ready, NEVER passed my information on. This experience was nothing short of complete negligence, and do not recommend anyone to order a custom pair of boots. Pick a pair that's already made. My husband ordered a custom pair of elephant boots in 2023 from burns, and they were already separating at the seam a year later. He had another boot company repair them, and they have been fine since. This company takes your money just fine, but don't expect the standard of what you are paying to reflect in the product you receive.

Turn around, don't drown.

To owners reading this message, I recommend you look at the conversation mike and I had. If he doesn't have it, I do, and will gladly pass it along, with timestamps. I wish more than anything I could remember the woman I spoke to, SHE was the most helpful person yet, and SHE is the ONLY reason I am even going to receive any boots.

*Update since receiving the boots: The boots were made with the WRONG MATERIAL. Paid for elephant(remember, in CASH), and received leather as the replacement instead. This place is a disaster. Seriously. Go....

Stopped in the Burns shop in Park City Utah while on a road trip from Wyoming. While there, I saw a style and color of cowboy hat that I really liked. I never owned a custom-made hat before, and my lady agreed to buy me one for Christmas this year, so I pulled the trigger and decided to give Burns a try. Kateri was the sales rep who waited on me and made the hat to my exact specs right there on the spot. And what a fantastic job she did! I was very particular about how I wanted the hat to look and feel, and Kateri was super patient with me, making sure that I was 100% satisfied with every detail. The hat turned out beautiful, and I can’t wait to proudly wear it once Christmas time comes around this year. I will be telling my friends and relatives about the wonderful job that Kateri did, and about Burns Cowboy Shop as the place to go for a quality custom-made hat.
