Honesty and sticking to one's word is very important to me. When people do not stick to their word, it causes problems in other people's lives. Last week I made an appointment with Troy at the recycling center to purchase a used recycling center truck. I made an appointment for late morning Monday the 11th. Troy gave me a price and said that he would hold the truck.
I sent a text message Monday morning letting him know that I was on my way. I arrived after a 3 and 1/2 hour drive with my truck and rented trailer. Troy claimed that he sent text messages this morning, however I had not received anything. (UPDATE: My new phone did not show the messages from Troy that he sent on Monday morning notifying me that he had not stuck to his word and had instead sold the truck - he did not lie about THIS).
I had to juggle my employees schedules around and mess up other people's day in order to make this trip for a truck purchase to happen. I had to spend money renting the trailer. I put 7 hours worth of wear and tear on my vehicle, and spent money on the fuel to do so.
My biggest problem is the lie that Troy told me, saying that it would be okay for me to come to look at the vehicle on Monday. If he had said that he was going to sell it to the first person to show up, I could have planned my life around that and could have contacted him to see if it was still available before making the long drive.
To be fair, perhaps there was a technology problem and he was not lying about sending text messages to me, perhaps his phone was malfunctioning or perhaps mine was malfunctioning (UPDATE: THIS WAS THE CASE), although I have not had any other problems with other people sending me messages.
Dishonest employees are a concern to any business owner, and I am thrilled to have a team that acts with absolute integrity. I am disappointed in this government subsidized recycling center, which should have some duty...
Read moreOverall a great place to recycle. Wish they took PVC water pipe. Not a plumber just use to build things so wind up with scrap. They do eRecycling too for a fee. Was a great help when was downsizing before moving.
Despite assurances from staff can recycle off hours was closed making a trip all the way from SLC to do paper recycling. They also close for holidays so check their schedule.
Update now they do take shredded paper plus they have a shredder there. However maybe better to bring already shredded was occupied the whole 30min I was there last time. Maybe another shredder even though they are much bigger than personal sized shredders? However not sure they would take the microsized shredded paper since their size is the strip shredded paper. Also haven't been since corona virus upsurge so might be worth checking if they are still open. Seems recycling would be an essential business since have seen contractors bring scrap metal. Not likely to go again until corona virus has passed since is close quarters and impossible to keep 6ft social distance unless they just allowed a few people in at a time.
They don't take packaging paper whatever that means. Does it mean Christmas wrapping paper? Or is it that brown paper wadded up to protecting shipments. A picture would be helpful. Is just a hand scrawled sign. Plus last checked don't take shredded paper either. Since the private company SLC recycling doesn't take any paper can only throw shredded paper away...Then went into the office to ask if green plastic bottles were considered clear bottles or not. The lame answer was they were a volunteer they didn't know. What kind of operation doesn't train their volunteers to be helpful...
Read moreThis is surprisingly the only place around to take all of your recycling. But, they will take everything that can be recycled, so they are doing a good service! Even better, they are a thrift store that sells things still in good condition with a lot of life left to them for excellent prices! They also have construction material saved from remodeling, kept out of landfills. Some of the other things we noticed they recycle here, but rarely anywhere else are: alkaline and rechargeable batteries, ink cartridges, toothpaste tubes, flags, e-waste like old printers and flat TVs, and so on! Don’t throw out your “trash”! You’d be surprised what will recycle! And they are a non-profit, so your donation can be counted as a...
