I used to love coming to this hair salon for my trims and silk presses, but after this last visit, I will not be coming again and advising other not to come. It’s been about two months since I’ve gotten my hair cut/highlighted and I was trying to give it some time to grow in and get used to, but I realize how bad it is the longer I wait.
Firstly, my stylist was the owner, and I had come in the day beforehand to inquire about highlights and haircut, and we chose a time that SHE said she was available for. She was about an hour late, I was about to step out the chair when she walked in. Her excuse was that she had a workout class and forgot about the appointment.
Secondly, it felt as if she was rushing through putting the highlights in, she didn’t comb my hair or anything, everything seemed very rushed and messy. I’d mentioned that I may want to come back and dye it red, so I felt like she was highlighting my hair horribly because she could fix it later when I “come back”.
Thirdly, I asked for a SMALL money piece in the front bangs and she bleached a HUGE chunk of the front of my hair. The highlights overall were uneven, different colors, and very brassy.
Fourthly, I asked for a layered haircut to hide some of the bangs I had unevenly cut beforehand. I didn’t find out until I got home and my hair dried, that the haircut was hideous and rushed as well. Everything was very uneven.
Fifthly, I’ve never been tenderheaded before, but after getting my hair done there, it’s like, even a loose ponytail is too tight and it hurts. I don’t know if she did something wrong with the bleaching process or what. My curl pattern is also ruined, the front of my hair doesn’t curl up anymore, and my hair texture as a whole is very dry and unappealing.
Please see the picture below, it’s what it looked like a couple days after. You can see the brassiness and ruined hair...
Read moreMy experience at Admirations has been nothing short of wonderful!
I have been coming to Admirations for over 15 years..initially getting my services with one stylist, Kia Hughes, who was an amazing person. I followed Kia from another salon because she was awesome. Unfortunately, Kia passed away in 2008. Unlike other people who may have decided to go elsewhere and seek another stylist, I wasn't because I knew that Admirations had a great staff of people who are professional, talented and caring...
Cherrise, without downplaying her skills was like Kia's protégé and she stepped right in and claimed me as her client and friend over the years. I received so any compliments on my hair from my boss; after much time and convincing, she too has become part of the Admirations family.
My boss planned a wedding shower for me last year and invited all of the Admirations staff...it warmed my heart that they came to the shower!
Both Cherrise and Debbie (owner of Admirations owner) attended my wedding last year in Mexico and helped me to prepare for the big day and we had a great time in Mexico!
Debbie is an inspiration to all women who aspire to be successful not only in business but in life. She is a God fearing woman, she is humble and she has a lot of compassion for others.
Upon my most recent visit to Admirations, I walked in to hear some very disturbing news. Admirations HAS TO RELOCATE!!!
The lease at Admirations is not being renewed. Debbie was given this notice via text...WHO does that?!! After 18 years of being a very loyal and responsible tenant, she was not given the professional courtesy that she deserves and is entitled to...
All of her longtime clients and friends will definitely follow her to her new location but we are angry at the blatant disrespect...
Read moreUsually I am hesitant to write bad reviews because I did use to work in customer service for many many years, but this was a time, where I had to. I came in at approximately 11:45am for my noon appointment with Keisha (she was a referral from a friend of mine and this was my second time going to her). I came in and checked in and was told to head to the back. I headed to the back and waited. 15 minutes passed, 20 minutes passed, 30 minutes passed and none of the assistants, shampoo girls etc. said anything to me, acknowledged me or let me know how much longer until they would start working on my hair. During the 30 minute mark, I did notice that people who came after me were being serviced. That was when I started looking for another salon to do my hair. It was literally 45 minutes before one of the assistants came to let me know that someone would start washing my hair shortly. Really? 45 minutes? By that time, I had thankfully found a salon that could fit me in and I left to get my hair done. I definitely will not be heading back (though it's close to my university) or recommending anyone that I know go there. There is nothing special about this salon that would make me wait 45 minutes before someone would even acknowledge me, much less even start working on my hair. It's really just your average black salon with average styling and subpar customer service. There are many other salons in the city with better customer service and better styling, though you may have to travel further.
Overall: Very unorganized salon that needs better business practices from top (manager, Keisha, etc.) to bottom (assistants).
It's very easy to own a business, running a successful business however, is a whole...
