Part 1: Hello, I come here today to tell you about my experience at Skyn Haven in Philadelphia. I had been looking for a skincare specialist that specialized in chemical peels specifically, due to my hyperpigmentation. I came across Latiyah (Skyn Haven) on instagram in the summer of 2024. I was very hesitant at first because it's definitely a risk when you put trust in someone that you found on social media to treat your skin. Months went by and I thought it over and decided to give her a chance. I finally signed up for the skin bootcamp program waiting list that she has listed on her website on December 11th 2024. I sent 3 photos of my face (left side , right side and facing forward). The amount requested for the deposit for the bootcamp is $115. I would pay the remaining balance of $115 at the time of my first treatment. Weeks went by, so I said you know what let me just reach out for an update on the waiting list. I reached out January 17th 2025, I received a response the following day on January 18th 2025. I was accepted into the bootcamp! I was so excited and thrilled to get started on my skincare journey! I chose to come on Thursdays because that is when I only have to work at one of my jobs. I also booked majority of the appointments for 5:00pm, there were a couple of times I booked for 5:30 being that I was coming all the way from south Jersey on the bus, I did not want to be late. My first treatment appointment was on February 20th I paid my remaining balance of $115 plus an additional $316 for skincare products. I was told the products would last about 90 days, I was sent home with a packet of information that I had to review about her policies. Moving forward, being in the bootcamp it was mandatory to book with Latiyah every 2 weeks for treatments such as facials and chemical peels. You could not purchase the skincare products from anyone but her or you would be kicked out of the bootcamp. There is also a lapse fee of $50 if you do not make your bi weekly appointments. The day after my first treatment on February 21 2025 is when she sent me a text with the skincare routine in the order the products with be applied. Next I will list the dates of my appointments, along with the amount. My second appointment March 17 2025 - $190 My third appointment April 3 2025 - $158.25 My fourth appointment April 24 - $155 My fifth appointment May 29 2025 - I had to refresh my products, pay a lapse fee and pay for the treatment. Totaling out to $478 My sixth appointment June 12 2025 - $158.25 My seventh and final treatment June 26 2025 - $158.25. With that being said I was very dedicated and determined to clear up my skin. I was so dedicated that I would take the bus from south Jersey after work every two weeks for my treatments and that was costing me on top of everything else. But let me be clear that it was never about the money. When you're paying for skincare services you're expecting not only professionalism but most definitely respect and hospitality and that's something that I just did not see at Skyn Haven. Now you're probably wondering why it took me seven treatments to realize that Skyn haven wasn't the place for me, to tell you the truth I was so blindsided at first and didn't want to believe it, I truly thought the negligence would go away (maybe she was just having bad days). I even discussed this with close friends and my boyfriend. I guess I was so desperate, I ignored it at first. When I started noticing that she would forget to send me important information such as invoices, my before and after photos, instructions on how to take care of the skin after certain treatments I then became skeptical. She also would forget on many occasions of the treatments that she provided, at the beginning of my appointments she would ask, "So what did we do last time?". It made me worry a lot, because again when you pay for a luxury service like skincare you're expecting it to meet your standards. I would know this especially because I work at...
Read moreI have to use multiple accounts because my review is so detailed. This is a continuation from Kirstie C’s experience at Skyn haven Part 2: Next I will list more concerns I had while receiving treatments at Skyn haven. every appointment I would ring the door bell to be let in from downstairs and I was not answered, so I had to wait for someone else to enter the door just to be let upstairs. I was never given the door code like she said she would provide. There was also a time when she had moved studios and I was not notified in advance so I was waiting in the wrong waiting area. I’d also like to bring to your attention about her work space. Her work space where her tools and products would sit would be cluttered and messy. That was definitely a red flag. Another occasion that made me feel uncomfortable was May 29th 2025, she recommended that I purchase a higher dosage of the mandelic serum (I was on the 8%, she recommended that I move up to the 11%) . I had concerns about the dosage and I tried to express that to her and she caught an attitude and became very combative. I backed off and just agreed because I hate confrontation and why would I want confrontation with someone who’s treating my skin or anyone for that matter. I left home and the next day I did my skincare, I applied the 11% mandelic serum and it started to burn. I expressed this to her at my next appointment and she didn’t respond with any advice. At that point because I already purchased it I decided to still use the 11% but just dabbing one dot on the forehead cheeks and chin. The final straw was on June 26 2025 my seventh and final appointment. The treatment I was coming in for was dermaplaning. I requested to come at 5:30p she informed me that she didn’t have that time available. She said she had a 5:00pm so I took it. That afternoon approximately at 2:11pm I reached out to Latiyah letting her know that I had an emergency and that my boyfriend was in the hospital (I’ve never not once asked to be pushed back, this was my first time) I asked if it was possible could push me back to 6:00pm. She replied saying that she had someone at that time. I said okay, I’ll make it happen! She then says you can come at 5:30pm but we have to do a peel” . Doing a peel was never the plan because I’m going on vacation and she was well aware of that. I declined coming at 5:30pm for the peel. Approximately at 3:18pm she sends me a text saying her 6:00pm appointment wants to come earlier and asked if I wanted to switch. I replied letting her know I was already on the bus heading to Philadelphia. Fast forward, I arrive at Skyn haven approximately at 4:50pm, I ring in on the door bell and no answer. So I wait for someone who’s entering into the building that has the access code. Once that happens I make my way upstairs to the hallway to wait. Approximately at 5:00pm a client walks into the hallway asking if I have an appointment, I said yes. She asks what time, I reply saying 5:00pm, she says that can’t be, I have an appointment for 5:00pm! At this point we’re both confused. Latiyah opens her door and sees that we’re both here. At that moment I felt so uncomfortable I asked for the key to the restroom, as I walk away her and the other client that arrived at the same time as me are having a discussion. I come back the client is leaving. I felt terrible, those were my exact words to Latiyah. I then said to her, “hey if you want to take her next you can, I’m in no rush, now that I know my boyfriend will be okay at the hospital. Her response was that “she always does this”. She then closes her door. The first thing she says to me is “what are we doing today”. I am so stunned and so confused. Because here we are at my seventh treatment and you don’t know the service that you’re providing today… I tell her that we talked about dermaplaning. She responds saying she’s gonna look back in her notes. She starts...
Read moreWhen I came to Skyn Haven, I was nervous & had a past full of failed acne & hyperpigmentation treatments. I’d seen other estheticians and dermatologists but had little faith in seeing clear skin on myself. My skin was sensitive & often inflamed because I couldn't figure out a skin routine just for me. At my consultation & first treatment appointment, we talked about everything from my skin concerns to my diet. I had a relaxing facial that put me to sleep and went home w/ an arsenal of carefully crafted and selected products just for me. I even had an information packet full of recommendations for diet changes, supplements, and lifestyle tips to help the process. I watched for irritation like a hawk, and if I felt even the tiniest bit of tingling, I wanted to throw the towel in. Latiyah listened to my concerns and encouraged me to continue, always emphasizing that I could contact her for anything. I was skeptical, but I pressed forward and continued following the routine I was set up with. I had my 3rd appointment today, and the positive difference in my skin is tripping me out!!!!!! It took years for my skin to get to where it was, so improvement isn't something I thought I'd see so soon. My skin feels supple and hydrated. After doing my morning and night routines, I feel nourished, and as time progresses, I see my skin’s beauty reveal itself more. The texture and inflamed bumps I had once resembled an angry, discolored rash, but now, I see only skin. Glowing skin at that. For anyone considering the skincare boot camp, my advice is to listen to Latiyah and give your routine a chance. Even when it's hard, or you’re unsure of its benefit. The results will speak for themselves with time and consistency. It also helps to be cared for by a woman of color who understands hyperpigmentation and once had acne herself. Our Esthi understands our fears and frustration and wants clear skin for us as much as we want it for ourselves. I look forward to my biweekly appointments, and this is one of the BEST investments I’ve made in a very long time. Now let me go rebook before I get a bootcamp...
