I'll start off by saying I HIGHLY recommend this place; not just for the services provided, but for a multitude of other reasons as well. The space that James operates is a blank canvas that serves creativity beyond his own craft. He lines it with temporary pieces created by artists being showcased during the current month/time period. I haven’t come across a similar kind of storefront of this nature in the city. It feels original, and the whole experience provided is unique by design.

Anyway, I brought in a suit I had purchased online from a European company for my wedding day. It had a bit of a "boxy" feel, but James took one look and assured me he could reshape it into a more modern fit that would complement the silhouette and style I was aiming for. Not only was I beyond impressed with the results, but his attention to detail and the suggestions he offered for styling were well worth the price (which was surprisingly lower than what many dry cleaning shops quote).

Each time he took a measurement for an alteration, he explained how a seam should look or how fabric should sit when tailored properly. He also offered ideas for patterns/colors to style both my groomsmen and myself for the wedding day. The whole process felt less like a transaction and more like a collaboration.

It was a great experience, and I highly recommend STAATE to anyone in the market for a custom suit or alteration. It is a great spot to have in Philly and I will absolutely return for any needs I have...

I don’t normally write long reviews, but I’m so grateful to have James and this boutique in the neighborhood.

I had an alteration emergency for a wedding I was attending the next day and my coworker told me to go straight there and see if they were open because sometimes they work late and don’t post hours—I’m assuming appointment only.

I went straight there and didn’t even call ahead and just hoped. I couldn’t believe they were still there after 8PM! This place is GORGEOUS. There is no sign, but you can’t miss the bright all white store with gold accents and an old fashioned sewing machine in the window and the awesome art on the walls.

James answered the door and was so gracious and welcoming even with me intruding so late. AND then I realize he was with a customer as he walked me into the boutique, but everyone just acted as if we were old friends and didn’t mind. I couldn’t believe it.

The other customer, whose name I unfortunately forget, was so nice that he actually paused his appointment for his custom suit! Thank you kind stranger!!!

The next day I came to pickup and couldn’t even try on because I had to leave immediately for the wedding. I put it on when I got there and it was perfect!

Thank you everyone for such an amazing experience. I wish this was the atmosphere and service everywhere.

I will definitely be back and I promise I won’t just barge in...
