I lived at The Westbury for nearly 4 years, and I greatly enjoyed my time living there. When I first moved here I was still fairly fresh out of college, and I was very eager to have a home with no roommates that was strictly my own. Between the amazing staff, the building itself, excellent location, and the overall quality of life I had living in this building, The Westbury was worth it all.
To start off the location itself is really solid. Being near some of the best neighborhoods in Philly such as Rittenhouse Square is one thing, but the quality of life in this exact spot is excellent too. Whether it be grocery shopping, convenience stores, quality restaurants, or even looking for a bar to chill with friends, the number of options at your disposal is wonderful.
The Westbury itself is a very beautiful and wonderful building to live in. The entrance alone is one thing, but the apartments are also in great condition. I toured many different layouts before choosing which to stay in, and I can safely say you can't go wrong with any options. I lived in an 06 1 bedroom apartment during my time as a tenant, and I will say having essentially a corner apartment was ideal for me. The amount of space I had in my apartment was more than enough for me to get creative, and make a space that I could love for myself while being welcoming to all guests I had. While it may be a downside that there isn't in-unit laundry, you will have the option to do laundry in the basement with all of the machines working very well. Throw in that the building has a flat rate utility bill, and your time here will be very smooth.
If you're looking for a building that has a caring staff then look no further than here. I started my time with The Westbury being in contact with the building's former manager, Kevin, and he did a great job showing me all that's great with the building. A majority of my time though was spent under Forrest as the property manager, and he was overall very excellent and did a great job taking care of his tenants. The maintenance team led by Glenn was always working nonstop to make sure everything in the building was well-maintained; if you needed something fixed then you can be certain it will be done well and in a timely manner. On top of that all of the doormen such as Cal were always very friendly and welcoming. You can also expect to get free sweets on the weekends and special occasions too. As a whole the entire staff are just all very excellent people who do their best to make everyone living at The Westbury feel welcomed.
Overall I really did love my time living here. I've made many great memories during my time there, and I will greatly miss it. To anyone searching for an apartment in Center City I highly recommend you give The Westbury a chance, and to The Westbury I thank you for having me as a tenant for 4...
Read moreThe Westbury was my first apartment out of college and it had checked all of my boxes for a dream home—a historic building in the heart of the city with hardwood floors, tall ceilings and a big, beautiful bay window to set my desk in. However, the real gem of this place ended up being the University City Housing team. The staff had always been so friendly, helpful and community-oriented. And after 2 years of reasonable-to-no rent raises during the most intense era of COVID, I vowed that as long as I worked in Philadelphia I was never going to leave the Westbury, or at the very least the UCH system. Recently my partner and I have made the step to move in together, causing us to require more space as we both work primarily from home. As a result, we opted to move into a brownstone owned by UCH. To say that Cal and Forrest, the leasing officers, have been accommodating towards both of our move-in schedules and overall wants and needs would be a massive understatement. They have been downright saints. I don’t believe I would’ve been able to navigate this move with anyone else.
If you are considering the Westbury as your new home, there’s not much I can say about the building that you won’t see for yourself once you get there—it’s absolutely gorgeous and I think that alone speaks for itself. But at a time where property managers around the country are refusing to take care of their rentals, refusing to get to know their tenants, and yet demanding 50% renewal increases from them come the end of their leases, I cannot shut up about how important it is to have a team like UCH who will actually treat you like a part of...
Read moreWe lived in Westbury for four years, from 2018 to 2022 (we moved out as we found new jobs in California). There are so many good things about Westbury. I am just highlighting a few here:
The biggest asset is Westbury's awesome team. We worked with three managers (Stephany, Kevin, and Forrest (current manager)). All were so nice, respectful, and helpful. Due to our circumstances, there was a great deal of uncertainty in our move-out plan, but they were very flexible and helpful and allowed us to terminate our contract on very short notice. The other folks in the team are rockstars as well. When you encounter an issue, everyone is up for helping you.
Finding a good apartment in Philly is not as easy as it sounds. Although there are many options for lease, most of them are so old and not renovated, have mice/insects, and/or not located in a good neighborhood. We were so lucky that we ended up w/ Westbury after searching for over a month. Westbury had all the things we were looking for: located in a decent neighborhood, and is very clean/renovated (we never saw any mice, etc in the building - I think this only occurs in
